It is with tremendous sadness we announce the passing of our Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma, Jean Elizabeth Zaran. Mom passed away on Friday, September 28, 2018 at the age of 86 years with family by her side.
Mom was predeceased by her parents Chester and Margaret Bartlett; her sisters Beryl and Heather (in infancy) and her brother Ronnie. Left to cherish her memory is her son Rod (Barbara), daughter Wendy, granddaughters Jenna (Grant) and Melissa (Jeremy), the lights of her life great-grandchildren Elizabeth and William, and baby Selinger (due in March); as well as her brother Eddie Bartlett and her sister Norma Kullman; along with many treasured nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Mom grew up on the family farm near Colfax, SK. Hard work was part of daily living, whether it was picking rocks in the field or general chores around the farm. Growing up in the 30s, along with her brother and sisters, Mom learned the value of a strong work ethic and close family ties.
A single mother raising two kids on her own during the 60s and 70s was challenging in so many ways, not the least of which was providing life's essentials. The values and work ethic she learned on the farm drove her to work two part-time jobs until she began working in the drapery business. There she found her passion, opening Genie's House of Draperies in 1974, where she thrived until three years ago, closing the business at age 83.
We will honor Mom at a Celebration of her Life on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Best Western 7 Oaks Inn, Banyon Centre, 777 Albert Street, Regina, SK. Red was Mom’s favorite color – please consider wearing a little (or a lot) of red along with your bling to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Regina Humane Society, P.O. Box 3143, Regina, SK S4P 3G7.
Our heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and support staff on 4A (Accountable Care Unit) at the Regina Pasqua Hospital. The care and compassion you showed not only to Mom but our family is truly appreciated. You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence at the family’s on-line obituary at: www.myalternatives.ca
