Andrew was born in Burnaby, British Columbia in 1982. As a child he loved to be in the midst of people and outdoors. His favourite activities were riding his bike and building ramps so he could launch his toy boats into any and every source of water. He also loved to read and he carried a large full colour book “The Living World” almost everywhere for two years until it literally fell apart.
He enjoyed fishing trips with his father and grandfather, swimming and piano lessons with his mother and sister, Hayley. He loved the family dog Lady and the many gerbils and fish that joined us over the years. Every week he played hockey at Boys Brigade and he was highly engaged with his Sunday School teachers and Youth Leaders at both Royal Oak Community Church (ROCC – Burnaby) and Westwood Community Baptist (Coquitlam). He played roller hockey for two years, gymnastics for two years and wrestled throughout high school (Pacific Academy, Lord Tweedsmuir) winning several gold medals for his weight category. He finished an Electrician’s pre-apprenticeship program during his senior high school years and won first place in the BC Skills competition 1999 and 2000. He placed second in the Canada Skills competition in 2000.
Andrew met his wife Kate (Whitehouse) through the College and Career group at ROCC. His willingness to attend Bard on the Beach year after year clinched the deal for her and they were married on October 10, 2004 in Burnaby. In 2004 Andrew moved to Fort St John to find work in the oil and gas industry. Kate joined him in the winter of 2005 and they welcomed the birth of their first son Ethan in September 2006. In 2009 they celebrated the birth of their second son Rueben. Andrew was a devoted father and husband and loved to spoil his boys. Ethan loved quadding with Dad and Rueben loved to take rides in Dad’s corvette. Andrew’s faithful dog Lilly was always at his side and loved going quadding, walking and to work with him.
Andrew loved living in the North. He enjoyed the creative challenges of his job and had a wonderful appreciation for the landscape of the Peace Region. He looked forward to his yearly quadding trips with his friends and would take his boat out on Charlie Lake whenever he could. Known as “the Philospoher” to many of his friends, Andrew could handle his own in any conversation and loved to discuss a wide range of topics including religion, politics, Shakespeare and his work as well as the merits of a good whiskey.
Andrew enjoyed travelling with his family and had fond memories of his times spent at Pender Harbour and childhood camping trips to Disneyland as well as more recent holidays to England, Amsterdam, France and Italy. An upcoming family trip was being planned to Disneyland as well as a visit to remote Easter Island.
Andrew was loved by his wife Kate, his sons Ethan (6 years) and Rueben (4 years), his Mom Sylvia (Doug), Dad Andy (Wendy) and sister Hayley (Tony), his niece Mackenzie and grandmother Inez, aunts and uncles Pat (Ivan), Violet (Gord) Jim (Deanna), Susan (Mike), Nancy (Trevor), Linda (Sean), cousins Jeff (Monique), Sandra (Ryan), Joshua, Nathan, Zac, Amy, Becky, Brendan, Aiden and many 2nd cousins and extended family.
