Victor "Lionel" Brenholen

Victor “Lionel” Brenholen - Lionel passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit 3A in a loving and caring environment with family by his side. Lionel is survived by his wife Mary Ann; children Michael (Luba), Laurie (Jeff), and Gregory; grandchildren Stephen (Morgan) and Sean (Lauren); great grandchildren Carys, Dylan, Rowan, and Kinley; his sister Ramona; best friends and in-laws Garry and Lois; in-laws Eileen, Duncan (Jane); and numerous beloved relatives who were well known and special to him. He was predeceased by Brother-in-Laws David and George.

Lionel grew up in Bromhead SK playing hockey, curling, and pitching baseball on the men’s team when he was just a young teen. Lionel spent most of his life residing in Regina. Lionel lived a life dedicated to learning and helping others achieve their potential. His main career was in education where he taught Physics, Chemistry, and Family Life. He served as head of the Science Department, Vice Principal, Principal, and then was promoted to Superintendent. Ahead of his time, Lionel earned his pilot’s license and then used this ability to develop with his team a unit for the provincial geography curriculum on stereoscopic maps. Lionel also joined the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves where he rose to the rank of Major and was appointed the commanding officer for 734 Communications Squadron. Some military highlights include receiving personal approval from Queen Elizabeth II for his design of the squadron insignia and dining with the Queen and Prince Philip with his fellow officers and members of RUSI. Lionel sat on a number of community boards providing support and direction to Regina non-profits. After retiring from education and the military, Lionel trained as a financial advisor where over the next two decades he helped others map out their financial security.

Lionel approached his many roles in life with zest and an array of skills. Upon his retirement, a former staff member summed up the experience of working with Lionel by writing: “Thank you for your support, wisdom, sense of humour, and the integrity and sensitivity which you have shown your staff. You will be missed a great deal”. Yes, Lionel was dearly loved and respected by all who knew him. Lionel’s family was very important to him and always came first. He was proud of every one of them. He loved doing things together as a family making every adventure special. Homemade skating rinks in the backyard, tobogganing, camping trips, fishing, swimming, golfing, cycling, cross country visits to science centres and museums all provided family fun and fond memories of special times shared together. He will be sorely missed by all.

As per Lionel’s wishes, cremation with no funeral or memorial service. Much love, Lionel, rest in peace.
