Victor John Tiede

Victor Tiede, was born on January 24, 1955 in Regina, Saskatchewan and passed away peacefully on May 31, 2021. Victor enjoyed every part of life and was a repository of information on history, art, music, cooking, fishing, growing many beautiful flowers, home renovation, and the environment, sharing his interests with his wife Joanne Crofford (Elkin). He is survived by his brother Bruno Tiede and his sister Loretta (Ron) Frigon, his nieces Lacey (Leo) and Jolie (Jett). Victor was predeceased by his mother Selma and brother George. He is also survived by his children and grandchildren shared with his wife Joanne; son Orion Paradis (Misty Wensel); grandson Lazlo Paradis and granddaughter Serena Thompson (Nick Faulkner); great-grandchildren Noah Thompson, Wyatt Thompson, and Kacy Faulkner. He was also predeceased by Sunny Thompson (Crofford).

Victor was an accomplished wood sculptor and musician.

Exhibition organized and circulated by the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery and the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre in Medicine Hat, Alberta, in partnership with the Art Gallery of Swift Current, Saskatchewan and the Buhler Gallery of Winnipeg, Manitoba, the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba of Brandon, Manitoba and the Red Deer Museum & Art Gallery of Red Deer, Alberta.

His work has been represented by Nouveau Gallery, Regina, Saskatchewan; and Susan Whitney Art Gallery, Regina, Saskatchewan (now Susan Whitney Appraisals). Susan always encouraged Vic in his artistic pursuits.

Victor also worked in the Wood Shop at the Neil Balkwill Centre, Regina, Saskatchewan assisting folks with their wood projects and use of large wood working equipment. He enjoyed working with direction from Brian Gladwell. Both of them shared a love affair with wood.

Victor carved the Ceremonial Paddle for the Dragon Boat Races in Regina, Saskatchewan and carved a series of dioramas depicting early life in Canada, the fur trade, RCMP in the RCMP museum in Regina.

He was a co-manager of Boomtown Drums Regina, Saskatchewan Music Ventures included Vikki T. Digital Drum Compositions, The Ghanadians with Master Drummer Joseph Ashong, Skin & Bone, Bandja, Jambalay, Tuesday Night Jam, and recording sessions with friend Dwayne Brotzel. Jams were held at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, Regina, Saskatchewan for a while. Vic and his wife Joanne enjoyed several years of performing at festivals and community events and many happy evenings creating, rehearsing, and jamming.

Even after joining life in a wheelchair, Vic insisted on going fishing mostly on Last Mountain Lake, Saskatchewan. His last fish was caught in 2018.  Guess who got to push the wheelchair through rocks and sand?  The family extend deep appreciation to Victor’s Specialist Doctors, Regina General Hospital Shopper’s Pharmacy, Abilities equipment, Social Worker Hazel and his long-term caregivers at Regina General Renal Unit, Edmonton Transplant program, and his two last stops at 3E, Team 1 – Regina General Hospital. Our family also extend appreciation for a very calm passing with the help of staff and facilities at the Regina Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit enabling him to die with great dignity and peace.

In the last two months much of our pleasure came from watching just about all the David Attenborough movies stored in Saskatchewan Libraries - what an amazing resource. We came to love every aspect of life on the planet, in the sky, on land, and below the ocean.
