Roxane Burym

1970 - 2026

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Roxane Burym announces her passing on January 15th, 2026, at the age of 55 years.

Roxane Burym (née Kosar) was born in Edmonton, Alberta, to proud parents Albert and Marion (née Findlay) Kosar on March 22nd, 1970. She was raised on the Empty Pocket Ranch near Amsterdam until her high school graduation. After which she attended Robertson career college in Saskatoon. Roxane had many fond memories of her childhood and young adult years, forming forever bonds with special friends Pam, Toni, Shelley, Corinne and numerous others. Roxane often reminisced of the nights spent with her cousins from Alberta, sleeping wall to wall on floor beds in their little sod house.

Roxane met the love of her life, Gerry Burym, at a Swan Plain dance in the spring of 1989. Gerry always proclaimed it was love at first sight They began their life together, marrying at their first home in Canora on December 26th, 1992. Together they had three beautiful children, Kassandra, Logan, and Alexa, whom she always said were among her life's greatest accomplishments, along with marrying Gerry (her “soulmate and THE best husband”), her grandchildren, and her nursing education. After marriage, Roxane spent a few years following her husband on the oil rigs in Alberta before coming back to Canora and working at Homestead Glass and lock and being a Sears representative, which in no doubt sparked her love for people.

In 2004 Roxane again followed her husband to Dysart Saskatchewan where they predominantly raised their children. Roxane was forever grateful for the special friendships and “village” of the people in and around Dysart and area who made the transition of moving easier. At this time she also found her calling was in healthcare while working housekeeping at the Cupar nursing home, as well as taking on a care giving role for her father in law during his last stage of life. She was accepted into the SIAST LPN program at Kawacatoose, gaining her nursing diploma with distinction at the age of 42.

Roxane aspired to be the best nurse she could possibly be and it showed in the relationships she formed with her patients and coworkers, always advocating for those vulnerable, and expanding her knowledge in the field. The bonds she formed working as a clinic nurse in Balcarres, as well as a home care nurse on cote first nation were impactful and where she met life long friends, especially Sarah, with whom she shared a special bond.

Time taught her that life was too short to care about what others thought and she lived her life accordingly, finding true happiness on the “empty pocket ranch” reliving memories of her youth as well as making new ones with her family, friends and horses. She rarely went anywhere without her terrier ‘Sweetpea’, and those who were lucky enough to know her will have a hard time forgetting her contagious kindness, as well as her affinity for cooking and baking. Her door was always open for a cup of coffee or a game of cards. She felt so lucky to have spent time travelling with her husband and friends to Mexico and Arizona in her later years of life. Roxane was predeceased by her mother and father Albert and Marion Kosar, sister Wendy, brothers Jason and Shannon, paternal grandparents Mike and Katie (Nickolichuk) Kosar, and maternal grandparents Fred and Mary (Lawyer) Findlay. She is survived by her soulmate Gerry Burym, children Kassandra (Matthew Beyerbergen), Logan, and Alexa, grandchildren Jace, Tyler, and Hayes, sister Shelly Kosar, as well as numerous friends and extended family.

Forever missed and lovingly remembered.

Celebration of life, to be held February 7th, at 2pm from the Ukrainian Catholic Hall Canora, Saskatchewan, with Pastor Allan O’Soup officiating. Interment at empty pocket ranch at a later date.

Many happy memories of the years Roxanne and family spent living beside us on the farm north of Dysart. So friendly , always ready to help , and great company for coffee in the evenings.  Roxanne,s achievements in  studying and qualifying for her career  and her success are a tremendous credit to her perseverance. It is tragic that she was taken from her family and friends too soon.

My deepest condolences on the loss of your matriarch. I will remember Roxane for being a take charge, caring cousin in our youth. She didn’t change much when I was lucky enough to spend time with her years later. I called her bossy. She said it was “leadership skills” Her kindness and hospitality I’ll always hold dear the summer we visited. Going to the hotel (which she hadn’t been in years), the cemetery where she shared stories with me and my sister Dixie. And the giant  zucchini’s she sent me home to Edmonton with ( if you know, you know) it’s hard to believe someone like Roxane has crossed over to the other side this soon. She was so full of life. So happy with her family. Especially her long awaited grandchildren. So happy with her horses, her friends… I didn’t know her as well as I wanted but I know how special she was when I did spend time with her. My heart goes out to her husband Gerry. Daughters Kassie and Alexa. And son Logan. May you find comfort in your cherished memories.
