Rie Beugelink

December 25, 2025

Rie Beugelink passed away December 25, 2025, at the age of 92. She was predeceased by her husband Wicher 27 years ago, and by her eldest daughter Cora 26 years ago. Rie will be lovingly remembered by her children: Harold (Florence), Roy (Julie), Judy (Charlie), Wayne (Sarah), Earl (Sue) and her 21 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Rie was born on September 5, 1933, in Enschede, the Netherlands. Mom’s parents were Hendrik Klos, who married Hendrikje Vos. Mom was named Hendrika, which later in life was changed to Rie. Her family consisted of her four sisters, Allie (Abel), Gerrie (Sietse), Annie (John), Rita (Jake) and her two brothers Bert (Eke) and Henry (Clasina).

Rie and her family endured the harshness of WW2 in the Netherlands and often talked about the liberation by Canadian soldiers. After the war Mom was proud to finish high school and work at the city hall in Enschede.

Mom and her family emigrated to Canada in 1953. They were sponsored by a farmer just west of Winnipeg and worked in the sugar beet fields that first summer. Mom and Dad were married December 5, 1953, and a few months later moved to Winnipeg.

Mom’s first child was born a few months before she turned 21 and she had 5 more children over the next 12 years. Mom was a stay-at-home mom, and we were a close, loving and fun-filled family. Mom had an amazing strength and joy about her that not only we loved, but it also attracted many people into her circle of life. Dad was often amazed at some of her fun antics and our home was generally peaceful and colorful. Our home was always a gathering place for friends.

Mom loved the Lord and her faith was strong. She loved to sing in the church choir, and we would always hear her singing in our home as she cared for the family. She loved reading her bible and knew scripture intimately. Jesus gave her much comfort, especially after losing her husband of 45 years and her daughter Cora, at 40 years old. Mom’s faith remained strong and vocal, which was a blessing to us. Even when Mom became a widow at an early age, she displayed her independence and strength by travelling to Burundi, Africa and then a year later to Senegal, Africa to help with the ministries there.

When you were around Mom, she always had something to say and likely you would be laughing and enjoying being with her. Mom has influenced 4 generations wonderfully. She will be so missed; however, her memories will be a strong blessing to all of us.

Messages of Condolence

I did not know tante Rie really well. But a couple things I remember with fondness. Whenever we visited for a meal  we would write our name on a tablecloth and then she would embroider it. It was always so fun finding out names back. And as a young girl I loved that she always wore blue eyeshadow. I thought she was so stylish. (And she was!). She had a ready hug and smile for us. We are thankful for the Knowledge of the Resurrection.

Maureen and I are so sad to learn of her passing, I met mom Beugelink when Harold and I were in school at Red River ( Back in the 70’s). Her kindness and hospitality left a lasting impression on me, and I loved when Harold and Roy shared tales of her exploits. Warmest condolences to the whole Beugelink network .

I fondly remember Aunt Rie first in Carman, MB, when visiting lots with my mom and dad (her brother).  There was always laughter and good times by all.  When I was young, Aunt Rie gave me her nickname for me, which I will always remember and gives me joy to this day, Nancy-kook-a-pancy :).  When I was 18 and moved from Carman to Tsawwassen, BC, Aunt Rie and Uncle Wicher took me in and helped me get on my feet.  They were very loving and kind and supported me through some difficult times.  I am so thankful for that and will always remember.  I also have fond memories of getting ready at 6 a.m. for work and having cereal with Earl in the kitchen.  And I also learned the importance of football games on the weekend !!  I am praying for the family in their sorrow and also rejoicing that Aunt Rie is in heaven after a full life of loving the Lord and spreading her joy to her children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Warm greetings to my cousins, spouses , family connections with that and friends. Better late than not I’ve decided. Condolences to all of you having said good bye to Aunt Rie  A beautiful woman of faith who enriched all of our lives. How wonderfully special are each of you to have been raised and surrounded with her infectious joy and contentment in all things through the years, even reaching out to little old me from afar with written words through the years. Joyful, like my own father, someone I always looked forward to seeing each new time again after moving to BC. May God gift you each with all the special memories that could never fade in their touching ways of connection as you journey forward without her for now. With love,Linda
