Nathan Elliott Wayne Muir
2000 - August 14, 2026
With broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved son, Nathan, as a result of a traffic accident near Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on August 10, 2026.
Born in Winnipeg when his parents were residing at Pinawa, Manitoba, Nathan and his parents and his beloved Grandmother moved to the Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, area. It was in Prince Albert that Nathan started French Immersion pre-school and completed grade three there before moving to our Benito, Manitoba, acreage.
Nathan completed the remainder of his education in Swan River schools, persevering in French Immersion and graduating with distinction in 2018. Nathan was involved with Swan River Air Cadet Squadron #519, where he advanced to the rank of Warrant Officer First Class. Summers were spent at Cadet training camps in Western Canada, and at Fiddle Camps throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
Nathan gave 110% to everything he put his hand to and believed that if you're going to do a job, do it well. He was curious, fiercely independent, and loved learning new things. After graduation, Nathan attended Brandon University where he enrolled in Sciences. He enjoyed it and received academic scholarships for his second year but a summer job with Fresh Projects building a school in Brandon convinced him that he wanted to work with his hands.
In 2019, Nathan enrolled in the Carpentry program at Assiniboine College in Dauphin. He was in that program until the Covid shut-down in March, 2020. At that time, Nathan started a job as a shop helper at a heavy duty truck repair shop in Brandon. He learned enough mechanics that he would do all of his own vehicle repairs and maintenance.
In December of 2020, Nathan had the opportunity to become indentured as an electrical apprentice in Saskatoon, without the benefit of the pre-employment program. Working as an itinerant industrial electrician, Nathan loved the job and location variety. He worked mainly in gas plants in the areas around Fort St. John and Grande Prairie, followed by a six month stint in Edmonton. He settled in Regina and worked on the new Canola Crushing plant. In June, 2025, Nathan achieved his Journeyman Red Seal certificate as a Construction Electrician.
Nathan wanted to learn as much as he could, so that he would be as useful as possible to help with the rebuilding efforts in Ukraine after the war ends. He felt an affinity for the Ukrainian cause, because his Mother's family all originated from Ukraine. Nathan even taught himself to speak Ukrainian after the invasion started, and immersed himself in Ukrainian history and culture; including joining a Ukrainian dance group.
In January, 2026, Nathan started apprenticing as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) and worked throughout Saskatchewan, as well as a three week stint at the grain terminal at Churchill. He had completed the required hours for the first year of this four year program. He was employed by KPIC Maintenance up until his fatal accident.
Nathan loved life and believed you should constantly strive to develop your God given talents. He had an extremely developed sense of right and wrong, and lived by the creed "would Jesus do it". He stood up to injustice whenever possible and would go out of his way to help others in need. He loved downhill skiing, target shooting, welding and tinkering, as well as playing music and going to his cabin in the RM of McCreary, Manitoba.
Nathan is survived by his parents, Wayne and Cathy Muir of Benito, Manitoba and on his father's side his Uncle Derek Watt of Winnipeg, Garry and Melody Muir of Vista, Marnie and Andrew Rilling of Red Deer, and Glen and Wendy Muir of Langenburg. On his mother's side is his Uncle Johann Antoniw of Rossburn and Pat and Garth Cuddy of Sanford. He also leaves behind many cousins and numerous friends that he met throughout his life too numerous to mention by name.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to United 24 at u24.gov.ua in Nathan's memory. Special thanks goes out to the anonymous trucker who called in the accident and assisted at the scene, Nick Cornea and Roger Beitel who were able to extract Nathan from his vehicle and provided assistance until trained personnel were dispatched to the scene, Sergeant Lanoie and Constable Vy of the Moose Jaw RCMP, as well as EMS responders from Milestone and Moose Jaw who did everything possible to save Nathan's life until he was air lifted by STARS to Regina General Hospital. Dr. Sy's team at the Surgical Intensive Care Unit on the second floor provided outstanding care that impressed us with its professionalism and compassion.
In His mercy, God had other plans for Nathan and he left us four days later. We know that we will meet again and hold on to the assurance in Isaiah 57:1.
Following cremation further details about a Celebration of Life at a later date will be posted on this page.
