Lorraine Eyre

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Eyre at the age of 86. Lorraine passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer at the Pasqua Hospital surrounded by her loving family on Friday July 25, 2025

Lorraine was born in Ituna SK in 1939 and was one of three children, a sister Lillian and brother Garnet. She met her husband Alfred Gordon Eyre and were wed in 1960. They welcomed one child, Dean in 1964.

Her career at SaskPower began in 1958. She shared the story of her time in the steno pool of how the ladies must never wear red nail polish. Well, Lorraine’s favorite colour was red and the polish she wore that day was red. She remembered meekly hiding her hands from view. After 37 years of dedication and much earned success, Lorraine retired from the corporation and devoted all of her time to Gordon and her family. She cherished being a grandmother to Andrew in 1991 and Lindsey in 1993, often referring to them as her “favorite” grandson and granddaughter.

In 1998, Gordon passed away and Lorraine was faced with the stoic challenge of being a widow. However, she navigated this time with strength from her son Dean, her loving daughter-in-law Kathy and their two children.

Gifted with an incredible talent, Lorraine was an avid seamstress. From blouses, three-piece suits, skirts, pants, choir gowns, you name it, she made it! She was the family alteration and repair specialist – from clothing to stuffed animals, there was no challenge too great that she couldn’t take on. Her precision to detail was flawless and was evident when she sewed fabric that was patterned, especially plaid. Often she would refer to sewing as “work” whereas her knitting and crocheting was more her relaxation. We were all blessed by her talents and one of her last moments with her beloved sewing machine was altering her great granddaughter’s dance costume.

Above all, Lorraine cherished being a grandmother to Andrew (Stephanie), Lindsey (Adam) and great-grandmother to Ayla, Lyla, Maisy, Olivia and Hudson. Family time was the greatest gift we could give her, although there were times she needed to turn down her hearing aids to accommodate for the chaos. Her great-grandchildren loved her fiercely. They showered her with hugs, kisses, cuddles and laughter and she adored every second of their immense love.

Lorraine was a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She encompassed the very best in virtues, that of strength, wisdom, bravery, sensibility, common sense, determination, sense of humour and independence. Her greatest worry was that someday she would become a burden. She was thankful for her life and had no complaints. She passed on her terms, maintaining her dignity and gratitude to having lived a long, full life with the blessing of family.

Lorraine will be forever missed and never forgotten as we carry the greatest gift of having been loved by her.

I worked with Lorraine starting in 1990 and found her to be one of the most fun and professional colleagues I’d ever had the pleasure of working with. I learned a lot from Lorraine and inherited a binder full of her printed office jokes when she decided to retire. She always spoke proudly of her family and will truly be missed. Rest in peace Lorraine.  ~ Jim Harris
