Robert Clarence LaRocque
With our deepest sadness, the family of Robert Clarence LaRocque announce his passing, on Friday November 3rd, 2023, at the age of 82. He was a proud Metis man with a great love and dedication to his family and friends. Robert was a husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, uncle, and so much more to those who loved him.
He was predeceased by his father John. J. LaRocque and mother Dumachild Mary LaRocque (nee Charette), his father-in-law Jean Baptiste Poitras and his mother-in-law Marie Veronica Poitras (nee Desjarlais), his brothers Albert and his wife Viola, Clifford and his wife Rita, and Brian, his sister Sharon and her husband Barry, his eldest daughter Roberta and her husband Barry and grand- daughter Gracie and grandson in infancy Rayane. Left to mourn his memory his loving wife Theresa LaRocque (nee Poitras), their children John (Karen), Wayne (Tanya), Mary (Rachid). Grandchildren Sarah (Brian), Veronica (Tegan), Agnes (Jerry), Kathleen, and Jonathan. His great- grandchildren Shaleen (his baby shay), Joseph, Breanna, Madison, and Avery. With nieces and nephews and cousins too numerous to count.
Robert grew up on a farm, on a hill in Lebret. Helped his family with farm work. Later becoming a car salesman. I think this is when Theresa fell for Robert. Often telling him to come over and then borrowing the car for a cruise.
Robert also worked for the Department of Natural Resources. His job was to plant trees at Echo Provincial Park. He was a bad ass environmentalist before it was cool. Robert was a grill cook at the Caledonian Curling Club. He was thrilled that Sandra Schmirler ordered one of his breakfasts and told him she's never had such perfect eggs. Army & Navy was another job, towards the end of his working days he was at Modern Cleaning. Often taking Sarah & Veronica to work as there wasn't a consistent sitter. Dad retired and decided to take care of them fulltime. Making a coffee and off they'd go to the play park every day for hours.
Robert liked to make you feel cared for. He wanted to help anyone he could if they needed. That was just him.
Dad ran a successful canteen at Native Metal Ipsco Steel mill, mid to late 1970's. Hosting holidays supper for the working men, women and their spouses. He was also an athlete. he played baseball, softball. he played guitar often with brother Clifford at dances in the valley or the neighboring communities. His love of sports drifted down to his sons and daughters.
"My dad passed this afternoon. He was a good man.
you might have known him as Bob, Coach or Mr. LaRocque. he was all these things to me but most importantly, he was my dad. I'll miss him until I see him again"
