It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony (Tony) John Kwan. He was born on February 11, 1978 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and passed away on April 7, 2021 in the Regina General Hospital at the age of 43 years.
Anthony was predeceased by his father John Kwan on May 11, 2020. He is survived by his mother Joyce; his sister Peggy (Jason) Irwin and their children Jarrett and Alexis; his two dogs Roo and Bao; as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, and close friends.
Anthony courageously fought a two-year battle with cancer before becoming ill with COVID-19 in mid-March.
He grew up in Fillmore, Saskatchewan where the family owned the Fillmore Café. Anthony graduated from 33 Central School and shortly after moved to Regina. In 2002, he left to teach English in China and explore the world. In 2012, he returned to Regina, Saskatchewan to be with his family and be a support to his parents.
For the last several years, Anthony worked at Clare Parker Homes Inc. He cared very deeply for all of the residents as well as his colleagues.
Anthony had a love for travelling the world, playing tennis, and turning his living room into a personal greenhouse. He encouraged those around him to embrace different cultures, learn something new every day, and to explore everything the world has to offer. Tony loved “Jeopardy” and anything trivia related. He always seemed to know too many of the answers and would always beat us at every game we played, even if we tried to cheat.
He would always share words of wisdom with those that needed to hear them, often saying “the only thing you can control is you” and “educate yourself”.
Tony lived every day to the fullest and we will treasure the memories that each of us has shared with him. Anthony would want all those that knew him to continue to learn, love each other, be virtuous and stand up for what is right.
The family appreciates the outpouring of love and support during this time and would like to send a special thank you to the Staff at Unit 3B at the Pasqua Hospital, SICU at the Regina General Hospital, the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, and the Kinsmen Foundation.
There will be a Private Graveside Service held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. We wish all those who loved Anthony could attend but due to COVID-19, the service will be a closed small gathering. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation to the Kinsmen TeleMiracle, the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, or the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Tony’s memory.
