Kathleen Ruth MacIntosh
May 9, 2025

Kathleen (Kay) Ruth MacIntosh (née Munro) passed peacefully into the presence of Jesus on May 9, 2025.
Kay was a warm, engaging, joyful presence, curious and caring, nurturing and compassionate. She had a great sense of humour and one always came away from interaction with her with a feeling of having been seen, listened to and loved. She was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, (great) grandmother, aunt, mentor and friend.
Kay, the youngest of 5 children, was born in Vancouver, and in her early years moved to Strome, Alberta, where her father established and ran a grocery store. She entered into a personal relationship with Jesus as her Saviour at an early age. She and her mother returned to Vancouver when she was 16, shortly after her father’s death, and just before her brother George was killed in the war.
She had a beautiful 66-year marriage with her beloved Cam. They famously made a deal when dating that he would read the Bible (which he did and became a Christian) and she would learn bridge and golf (which she didn’t). Family was a priority for Kay and Cam and they raised 5 children: Tim (Sarah), Dan (Marguerite), Peter (Jacquie), Susan (Terry) and Lisa (Barb). The “kids” and their offspring continued to be a priority through Kay’s years, faithfully and enthusiastically praying for, connecting with, entertaining and feeding them throughout her life. Her partnership with Cam was an inspiration for her children and for many others. They mentored countless couples informally and also formally through premarital counselling and marriage enrichment retreats.
When Cam died in 2020, Kay missed him deeply, but we also witnessed her more extroverted side emerge. She was always friendly, but this rose to a new level of involvement, going out of her way to welcome and engage newcomers, staff and friends in her Crofton Manor and Granville Chapel church communities. Her faith was central to Kay, and she was always willing, and sometimes insistent, on sharing it with others, driven by deep love and concern.
Kay trained as a social worker, obtaining a BSW and, when her family was grown, she earned an MA in counselling, after which she used her skill and knowledge at North Shore Counselling and in her church setting. She also taught ESL at Granville Chapel and those she taught were deeply impacted, touched by her teaching and friendship over the years. She and Cam hosted a weekly home group for many decades. In recent years, Kay was also actively involved in the monthly Young Life prayer meeting for the Vancouver area.
She will be deeply missed by her loving children, and her grandchildren Erin (Reuben), Rebecca, Lucas, Megan (Kerry), Cameron (McKinley), Anne-Marie (Cem), Adrienne (Jathan), Liam (Ty), Paige (Philip), Daniel, Benton, Kathleen, Anastasia (Tyler), Christopher, Trevor, Patrick and her great-grandchildren Emmerson, Corbin, Cade, Esme, and Neriah; together with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Cam and by her siblings George, Margaret (Walt), John (Bobbie, Barbara), and Roberta (Claude). She was also predeceased by her great-granddaughter Elliott.
The family would like to thank the Crofton Manor staff for their amazing care, Doctors Yau and Ayling, and her church community and many good friends that supported her especially during her later years.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Granville Chapel (5901 Granville St, Vancouver) on Thursday, May 29 at 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kay’s memory to Granville Chapel or Young Life of Canada.
