Joseph Emil Huber

Joseph Emil Huber passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025, at the age of 91.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Julie, and his children: Alan (Rowena) Huber, Karen (Jack) Bannow, Nina (Bill) Bowes, Melvin (Rae) Huber, and Lorne Huber. He is also survived by his siblings Robert (Audrey) Huber; Pearl (Bill) Fraser, Dianne (Ed) Tejszerski; George (Elana) Brundage and Marie (Borden) Kemmis and by 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and many nieces, and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, John and Paulina Huber, an infant son, grandson Carson, sister-in-law Audrey Huber and brother-in-law Bill Fraser.

After a brief time working off the farm, Joseph returned to his roots and made his home on the family farm just west of Serath, Saskatchewan. While he was a dedicated farmer, he was also so much more — an engineer, a master mechanic, an artist, and an inventor.

Joseph held a patent for a trip mechanism used on cultivators, which he designed and built in a modest “grey shed” on the farm. Many of those units are still in use today — a lasting tribute to his ingenuity and craftsmanship.

He took great pride in redesigning and rebuilding equipment, whether it was restoring a D8 Cat, lengthening the frame of a grain truck, refurbishing tractors and combines or turning a regular swather into a highspeed road unit. One of his proudest creations was converting a 1960s John Deere tractor to replicate the new-at-the-time Generation II model — complete with a

reconstructed cab that he insisted was quieter than anything from the factory. And there are those who will gladly agree.

Never shy to critique a flawed design, Joseph often questioned aloud what manufacturers were thinking when he encountered particularly baffling repairs. But no matter how busy he was, he always made time to help a neighbor in need — especially if it involved a mechanical fix.

Joe was also a lover of music and history and always enjoyed a good party and a good conversation about the past.

Joseph’s legacy is one of creativity, generosity, and practical brilliance. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 132 Keats St, Southey, Sk. on July 19 from 1:00 to 6:00.
