A Tribute to a Life Well Lived
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John (Jack) Bryan Toothill, who left us on May 30, 2025, at the age of 77, after a courageous five (5) year battle with cancer. Jack was born on February 14, 1948, in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Jack lived in Regina with his family until Grade 10 when they moved to Bengough, Saskatchewan, where his parents Ralph and Iolene Toothill had purchased the Bengough Hotel. After graduation, Jack moved to Fort Qu’Appelle to manage The Fort Hotel which was purchased in partnership with his parents. This is where he met the love of his life, Brenda (Lingelbach) Toothill. Jack and Brenda were married on August 28, 1971 in Fort Qu’Appelle. In 1972 Jack and Brenda moved to Regina where Jack worked at the Co-op Refinery and they built their first house together.
Their first son, Derek, was born in 1977, followed by their second son, James, in 1979. 1979 was the same year that Jack and Brenda took ownership of Bengough Motors 1979 Ltd. and moved back to Bengough with their two children. It was Jacks dream to own and operate an auto dealership. Bengough Motors 1979 Ltd. was a General Motors dealership, service station, and fuel station.
While in Bengough, Jack loved to play sports (golf, hockey, baseball, curling), work on cars, and he contributed to the community with volunteer work, coaching sports, as well as being the Town’s Mayor. During his tenure as Mayor the Town attained infrastructure enhancements such as developing paved streets and building baseball diamonds.
Jack and Brenda then moved to Regina in 2000 where they became resident managers of condominium complexes for the next 20 years until retirement. During their retirement years Jack and Brenda spent their summers at the family cabin where Jack continued his love for volunteer work and nature by becoming the President of the local Hamlet counsel and bringing in countless enhancements to the Cannington Lake Resort area including nature trails and a boat launch.
Jack dedicated his life to his family and friends. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin, who always put family first. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and always had a smile on his face.
He loved vehicles, racing cars, fixing cars, and selling cars. He also loved carpentry, building, and renovating. He was truly a “Jack-of-all-trades”. He loved nature, camping, boating, fishing, travelling and later in his life spending time at the cabin with Brenda and the family and all the work that came with it.
Jack is survived by his wife of 54 years Brenda Toothill (Lingelbach), mother Iolene Toothill (Ganshorn), son Derek (Melinda) Toothill and their children Mariska and Daniel, son James (Courtney) Toothill and their children Karsyn and Willow, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Jack was predeceased by his father, Ralph Toothill, his sister, Barb Pratt (Toothill), Brenda’s parents, Gus and Edith Lingelbach, and Brenda’s brother and sister Ted and Carol, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A special thanks to the doctors and staff of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre in Regina (Dr. Dolata and Nurse Francesca), the staff and nurses at the Bengough Health Centre (Toni Giraudier and Nicole Bowers) and the
staff and nurses at Bengough Home Care for the care that they gave to Jack throughout his courageous battle.
In lieu of flowers a contribution to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre or Bengough Twilight Home (Health Centre) is appreciated.
As per Jack’s wishes, there will not be a funeral or service, instead, he would want you to play a round of golf, cheer on the Edmonton Oilers, and spend a couple of hours of quality time with your loved ones. Our family would like to thank all those who were part of Jack’s life and helped to contribute to his joy, happiness, and fullness of life.
Jack's spirit and memory will forever remain in our hearts. Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

We are saddened to hear of Jack's passing. It has been many years since I took pose behind the plate to catch fast balls from Jack at Rambler Park for the Co-op Oilers. Did we have a team? With the mighty duo of Jack and Jim Shanks, we were a force to be reckoned with. We were a much better team with Jack as we were a much better world with him as well.It was a pleasure to have known him and as well as you, Brenda. May God Bless you and keep you in His Grace with the assistance of Family and friends, may you find some comfort knowing that we are all here for you when needed.Prayers for you and your Family today and always. Dan & Shirley. ~ Dan & Shirley Devers
