Fred Schuba
September 2, 1942 – April 19, 2025
Fred, our cherished husband, father and grandfather, went home to his Father, our Lord, on April 19, 2025 at the age of 82 years. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Denise, daughter Lynn and her daughter, Jenna Sanya: son Rob (Michelle Wildeman) and his children Jared, Jordan and Sarah: daughter Stacey (Jason Willmets) and their children Mackenzie and Matthew; and many family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Bernadine and Stefan Schuba: brother Robert Schuba, and daughter-in-law Lisa Schuba (Rob).
Fred was born September 2, 1942 in Vibank SK and was raised in a close-knit family with siblings Marie Molnar (Ron), Robert Schuba (Maxine), Lucille Williams (Scott) and Jack Schuba (Sharon). As a young man, he worked in the Vibank Meat Market owned and operated by his father until he left Vibank to pursue his teaching education. He met his wife Denise, when they were both attending teachers’ summer school. They married in 1966 and celebrated their 58th anniversary this past summer. Together, they raised three children who turned out pretty well, all things considered. And when the grandchildren came along, they quickly became Fred’s pride and joy. Family gatherings with the Schubas and Bonnevilles were frequent over the years and full of cherished memories.
Fred’s career was spent mainly in the Regina Catholic School system where he taught and later was appointed a principal. In the early years of his career he also worked at Fuhrmans, and set up a rototilling, fence building business with his friends.
A strong Catholic, Fred was a member of the Monsignor Gerein Knights of Columbus, where he volunteered for numerous charitable events and proudly served as Grand Knight.
He was a man of many talents which he freely shared with family, friends and colleagues. He enjoyed bowling, curling, golfing, fishing and boating. His favorite pastime was an energetic game of cards with family and friends. Fred became interested in woodworking and learned the craft through his mentor. He went on to build fine furniture, some for his own home, dining room sets for each of his children and bedroom suites for his grandchildren.
Upon retirement from teaching, Fred and Denise moved to Regina Beach. There were many happy hours spent planning and building a retirement home. Fred continued to be involved in the community and served as alderman for several terms and was elected Mayor. Winters were spent in Arizona, where Fred and Denise lived in Carriage Manor.
Fred enjoyed many activities including happy hours with friends, golfing and serving on the park council. He took up jewelry making and produced many beautiful pieces which Denise enjoys.
In 2017 Fred and Denise made the move to Broadway Terrace in Regina. Fred continued woodworking and gardening alongside his buddies. Fred enjoyed the many new friends he made and could always be found socializing, laughing and teasing both staff and residents.
A life well-lived and full of love, Fred will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. The memories he created will live on in our hearts and be treasured.
