It is with immense sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Lynn Denise Fluter on January 6, 2021.
Lynn was predeceased by her parents Bill and Betty and her brother Paul. Lynn is survived by her sister and best friend Carol; brother David (Gina); nieces and nephews Nicole (Jim), Jeff (Debbie), Brent, Josh, Darrin, Kim, Jane, Brandon (Shayla), Megan (Nathan), Hayden, Lucas and Cale; lastly her special great-great-nephew and niece Thomas and Mavis who brought her so much joy and happiness the last year and a half. Also left to mourn are many life-long and special friends that loved her too. She was an amazing lady!
Lynn was born on November 10, 1949, 3rd child to Bill and Betty. She grew up on the prairies and she loved and found beauty in the prairies every day of her life. She was so proud to be from Saskatchewan and she took great pride in making art to represent the prairies. Her favourite season was summer and she loved the sunrises and glorious sunsets. She also loved watching the prairie grasses and wheat fields blowing gently in the winds. Think of her every summer when you see beautiful, golden fields of wheat, as we all will. Lynn also loved working in her yard and planting flowers. She took great pleasure in her yard. It was her happy place, with the sun shining, birds singing, and surrounded by flowers.
As a teenager, Lynn was a playground supervisor, it helped support her as she put herself through the University of Regina. She often reminisced about her fond memories from the summers at the playgrounds and the people she met there. Lynn worked hard and obtained two degrees and taught for 33 years with the Regina Public Schoolboard. Teaching was her passion and she loved it and she found her true calling. She treated children with kindness, fairness and respect.
Lynn loved to travel, taking road trips with her mom and sister to the States or Alberta and British Columbia. Lynn and Carol went to several destination holidays and enjoyed quite a few cruises. In 2015, they did a "Bucket List" trip to Europe and toured a few countries. She loved Italy and talked about its beauty all the time. Some of her favourite adventures were trips down to good old Minot, North Dakota. Every trip had a funny and memorable story. The last few years, she just enjoyed getting away and having family bonding time and making sure she got taken to The Big K (Kmart) so that she could remind us about past trips.
Lynn LOVED animals, from little bunnies, to squirrels, all the prairie birds and robins and various other birds that came to her yard. Most of all she loved dogs. There isn't a dog she ever met that she didn't want to pet or love.
Lynn loved to paint and make crafts from pictures to wreathes, to planks. She also loved to cook and bake for her family and friends and her specialty was cakes and cupcakes. She loved to decorate them and have themes. I am sure everyone she knows has had a cake made for them from her. She also loved to host brunches, lunches, Mad Tea Parties and Mystery Dinners for her family and friends. She loved the Riders and may not have always understood what was going on but she cheered her heart out with the rest of us and bled green too.
Lynn could be gullible which made her trusting and susceptible to "pranks" and "Tall Tales". We have so many family stories that we refer to as "Lynnie Tales" and they have brought hours and hours of laughter with the retelling of these tales. She always laughed along with us (most of the time). Some honourable mentions include a stuffed beaver, turning her sister's blouse into a Dickie Collar, joy riding as a teenager down Albert Street and Wascana Park in her Studebaker with the gang, and forgetting her purses, keys and shoes at various restaurants, stores and houses BUT always getting everything back intact. All these funny stories and memories will be retold and retold and Lynn will forever be remembered and loved by her family.
Lynn was a genuine person with the biggest heart. She had a heart of gold and would help anyone. She was kind, giving and generous to all her family and friends. She loved her family so much and was so loyal to everyone. She always wanted the best for her family. She had the strongest bond with her sister Carol and they were inseparable. They were sisters by chance but best friends by choice. She never had children of her own but she considered us her kids too. Every child deserves to have and be loved by an Auntie Lynn. To be loved by such a lovely person is such an incredible honour. We will miss her at every family function, holiday, Sunday supper, even sad times, it will not be the same without her. We will go forward and live for her which is what she would want us to do. Lynn touched many lives, some in small ways and some in grand ones. She loved life and was grateful for hers and never took it for granted. She lived a beautiful life and was a beautiful, good person. RIP dear Auntie Lynnie.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Regina Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, as both her parents were veterans.
At Lynn's request, there will be no funeral service.
Thank you to Brent Metz at Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services for handling the cremation and for support at this time on behalf of her family.
