Donald Austin Lee

Donald Austin Lee, 76 of Agassiz BC, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025 surrounded by his family.  He is survived by his wife, Sharron, sons Steven (Nicole), Gary (Tiana); sisters in-law Maureen (Carl), Roslynn (Alex).

Don was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Florence; sister, Audrey and brothers, Sydney and Robert.

Don was born April 7, 1949, in Vancouver, the youngest of 4 siblings.  He attended high school at Vancouver Technical School where he met and later married Sharron, the love of his life, with whom he would spend the next 55 years.

He raised his family in Coquitlam during his 30-year tenure with the City of Vancouver in their Public Works Department. He spent his weekends working on the family home and on occasion would sneak away for an early morning paddle on the nearby lakes and rivers with his sons. He taught his sons the ins and outs of woodworking and mechanics with great patience as projects came together, leading to numerous treasured memories.

With the nest empty and his service days behind him, he moved with Sharron into The Maples in Port Coquitlam where he found himself working again, as the building manager for The Maples.

Looking for a change in pace, Don and Sharron moved again, this time to Agassiz.  Don, finally retiring for real this time, set up a woodworking shop in their garage.  For many years he crafted dozens of hardwood bowls, jewelry boxes, bird houses and furniture.  Most notable were his floor to ceiling castle playgrounds for their 2 cats and his many beautifully crafted walking canes for his wife.  He joined the local paddling club (FVPC) and The Pirates dragon boat team with his son Gary.  When he wasn't working in the garage on his latest project or enjoying his days paddling on a lake, he could be found on long walks around Agassiz, chatting with neighbors, petting dogs and visiting the horses with Sharron.

His quiet, gentle nature will be greatly missed by his family, friends, community and anyone that was fortunate enough to cross paths with him.

There will be no service, however you're encouraged to donate to the BC Cancer Foundation in his name.
