Christine Alice Munro
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Christine Alice Munro. Chris was the loving wife of David Munro. She died on September 12, 2025, in Regina, at the age of 75 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease with her family by her side. Chris was born on December 23, 1949, in Winkler, Manitoba, the second child of Jacob and Tamara Sawatzky. Chris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Chris is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Dave; son Ian (Candace), cherished grandson Lincoln and brothers Ed (Joan) of Winnipeg and Peter (Irma) of Winkler. Chris will also be deeply missed by many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Chris met Dave, her husband to be in Winnipeg, while she was studying for a degree in German Literature and Psychology and the University of Manitoba. They married on September 29, 1973.
Chris and Dave moved around during their early years together living in Winnipeg, Whitehorse and Fort Saskatchewan before moving to Regina in 1979, where they settled down for 26 years. In Whitehorse Chris took a course in drafting at the Tech College and subsequently drew maps for government agencies in Whitehorse, Edmonton and Regina. Ian was born in 1983 to become the centre of Chris’s life, and Chris chose to stay home to be a fulltime mother. Following Dave’s retirement in 2006, they moved to Blind Bay, BC to a house overlooking Shuswap Lake, where Chris enjoyed their retirement. In 2022, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, the previous year, Chris and Dave returned to Regina to establish a multi generational household with Ian and his family, giving Chris more time to be with family as the disease progressed. For the last 8 months, the compassionate staff at Trinity Manor care facility in Regina helped care for Chris as the disease stole her away.
Chris was an avid gardener, her flower garden often the envy of the neighbourhood, she enjoyed learning and mastering numerous crafts from glass mosaics to crochet. While in retirement in Blind Bay, Chris took up golf to play with Dave and her numerous friends in the Shuswap area. Chris and Dave loved to travel particularly getting away to warmer clines during winter months.
Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Messages of Condolence
Chris was one of those people whom after having met you would always want to see again. Her spirit was real and touched me warmly and with myself being a map-maker I always wondered if a little bit of me rubbed off on her. Meeting her again and asking her that question are not of this life. To her family and friends, I hope her warmth and spirit endures in your hearts and helps to sustain you through your loss and grief.Allan Fogg ~ Allan Fogg
