Sept 1949 - July 2024 (74 years old)
Edith was one of six children to Lydia and Justino Te Eng Fo born in Davao City, Philippines. She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Mary; and brothers, Clifton and Elmer (Boy). She leaves a daughter, Tania (married to Martin); sisters, Rosie and Armi; and two dogs, Ernie and Joey.
She passed peacefully on July 28, 2024, with her daughter, son-in-law, and dogs by her side, ending a year-and-a-half battle with cancer.
Edith was a strong and intelligent woman, who didn’t shy from challenge. After starting her lab technologist career in the Philippines, she immigrated to Canada in the late 70s with her husband, George Bangayan. Needing to find work, she moved to Vanderhoof, BC, where she learned northern life and made long-lasting friends. She came back to Vancouver to give birth and eventually settled working at St. Vincent’s Hospital (SVH). Edith continued her career beyond SVH, moving on as a realtor and a medical office assistant.
Edith enjoyed cross-country skiing, golf and camping in the 90s and then also dog walking, meeting up with St. Vincent’s Hospital friends and travelling on cruise ships in later years. She loved bringing people together, especially over food!
Her loving and kind nature, instilled in her and her siblings through her mother, was apparent to all around her. The hot, fresh pandesal that she would bring to the staff at the SPCA veterinary clinic, for example, spread joy and earned her the title of ‘the Bun Lady”.
She is terribly missed but remembered with love and affection. We continue to carry the memory of her in our hearts forever.
The Celebration of Life will be August 11, 2024.
