Surrounded by love, Anne Kolodychuk passed away on May 24, 2026, following a brief illness. Born October 13, 1935, as the second child of Nancy and Mike Golinowski, Anne grew up on a farm near Mannville, Alberta. Marrying the love of her life, Bernie, on May 9, 1959, together they raised three sons – Leonard, Brent, and Barry. Anne and Bernie were blessed with 67 years of marriage.
Anne was the heart and soul of the family - to her husband, her children, and their children she selflessly devoted her time and endless love to everyone. She was dedicated to supporting her family by both working hard in her career while keeping ‘all systems go’ at home (known to do laundry and house chores into the wee hours of the morning!). The kindness known to the family also extended to the outside world, and all those who knew her were better for it.
Throughout her life, Anne had a love of animals going as far back as her horse, Star, along with her latest – and very spoiled fur babies, her dogs, Sam and Ben. Both these boys became an integral part of her daily life.
As a lifelong hockey fan, Anne would often reminisce about playing pick-up as children with her brother, Bill. Over the years, this passion extended through to her sons and grandsons who she supported and actively encouraged their love of the game. No matter where she lived - Dawson Creek, Edmonton, Calgary, Penticton, or Chilliwack, Anne was always loyal to her team and animatedly cheered for the Oilers right up through their 2026 playoff run. She wore their jersey proudly.
Over her 90 years, Anne had an active social life and enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, bowling, and golfing playing her last game at the young age of 87. Along with their active social life, Anne and Bernie loved travelling. They had many adventures with the family including campouts, fishing trips, and a long road trip from Edmonton to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in a 1974 Country Squire station wagon! In their 60s, 70’s and 80’s, you could find Anne and Bernie globetrotting as they travelled internationally to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii, China, Thailand, and lastly, the Grand Cayman Island. Upon retirement, they purchased a motorhome and visited many places across Canada and the US which included numerous adventures with their grandchildren. In their later years, they became snowbirds travelling annually for many years from Penticton to Gilbert, Arizona.
Anne was incredibly proud of her three sons – Leonard (Grace), Brent (Sharon), and Barry (Collette); and just as proud of her 9 grandchildren – Patrick, Nick (Kirstin), Jaclyn (William), Kaitlyn, Brody, David (Claire), Brandon, Peter, and Stephen. As excited as Anne was to be the greatest Grandma, becoming a Great-Grandma, you could find her continually bragging about her 4 beautiful great granddaughters Ariya, Mara, Kailey, and Imogen. She was predeceased by her siblings, Bill and Elizabeth, and her son Leonard.
Anne will always be remembered for her love and devotion to her family. There are many fond memories of family gatherings around wonderful homemade meals, and of walking into her kitchen being given a hug and cookie from the bottomless Santa cookie jar. While Anne will be dearly missed by everyone, her memory and legacy will continue to live on in her children and in their children.
