Alan Currie
November 19, 2025
Alan James Currie, a revered family man and esteemed veteran, passed away on November 19, 2025, at the age of 75, while under the wonderful care of the staff and volunteers at Cascade Hospice of Chilliwack, BC.
Born in Drumheller, Alberta, on December 19, 1949, Alan's life was a testament to the power of dedication, love, and kindness. Alan's life was one of service and commitment. After a distinguished 37-year career with the Canadian Armed Forces, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer, Alan dedicated himself to healthcare. His compassionate nature led him to pursue a career in respiratory therapy, a role he embraced with the same precision and care that marked his military service. A graduate of Rose State College in Oklahoma City, Alan's medical expertise as a Registered Respiratory Therapist benefitted countless patients at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City before he brought his talents to Hillsboro General Hospital in Oregon.
Alan's unwavering love for his wife Carol, was the cornerstone of a beautiful partnership that was cherished by everyone who knew them. Together, they raised three remarkable children—Heath, Lance, and Deborah—who inherited their father's strength of character and passion for life. The light of Alan's life shone brightly on his grandchildren; Tayler, Ferris, Hunter, Aurora, and Jackson, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. The Currie family tree is deeply rooted in love and mutual support, with Alan's siblings Lynda, Marie, Susan, and Katherine, as well as his brothers-in-law Jim, Wayne and Rudy, all holding special places in his heart. The bond they shared was unbreakable and will continue to be celebrated in the stories they share about their beloved brother.
Alan's interests painted a life full of joyful exploration and adventure. He and Carol after 54 years of marriage, held a shared passion for travel, with cruising being a favored escape that allowed them to create memories across the globe. His earlier years were marked by the laughter and warmth of family camping trips, a tradition he held dear and reflected upon fondly. In his later years, Alan relished every opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren, each visit weaving a rich tapestry of love and legacy. Describing Alan as loving, kind, and intelligent only begins to capture the essence of a man whose life was a beacon of generosity and wisdom. He approached every challenge with thoughtful consideration and every celebration with heartfelt enthusiasm.
Alan Currie's journey through life was one of purpose and impact. He touched lives in his professional roles, brought joy to his family and friends, and left a legacy of love and service that will continue to resonate long after his passing. The world is dimmer without Alan's presence, but the lessons he taught and the love he gave will continue to illuminate the paths of those who were privileged to know him.
