Louis Emile Levesque

April 22nd, 2023

Louis Emile Levesque

With sadness, we announce the passing of Louis Levesque at the age of 67 following a long and valiant battle with kidney disease.  Louis left us on April 22, 2023 with his close family and friends by his side.

Louis spent his early childhood in Montmartre, SK prior to moving to Regina in 1965 where he attended St. Philip School and O'Neill High School. Upon graduating, Louis worked at IPSCO from 1974 to 1985 during which he obtained his Journeyman's Ticket in Industrial Mechanics from The Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon. He then went to work for the Mechanical Maintenance Unit of the R.C.M.P. Depot Division, before entering an apprenticeship program in the Armourer Section where he eventually earned Civilian Member and Peace Officer status.

Louis married Hally in 1979, one year after he was diagnosed with renal failure.  In 1982, Louis received a kidney transplant at University Hospital in Saskatoon which lasted for 20 years and during that time their daughter, Elyse, was born. Louis was a thoroughly devoted family man. He was ever the proud papa and supportive husband when it came to his girls. The other loves of his life were fixing and racing cars with his good friend, Gary, and growing the perfect tomato in his garden.

In 2003, Louis was required to go on hemodialysis for several years until he underwent a second kidney transplant in August 2020 from which he experienced a number of complications.  Throughout it all, he maintained a positive attitude. Louis' generosity was boundless.  He was ever ready to lend a sympathetic ear, spreading hope and laughter wherever he went.

Louis will be greatly missed by Hally, Elyse and his four-legged friend Touché as well as his three sisters, Elaine (Ed) Park , Terry (Darrell) Flaman and Claudine (Chuck) Thody, his sister-in-law Terry Lynn (Terry) Zerff, and brother-in-law Leon Dana (Waynona) Engelsjord, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all those who made it possible for Louis to live a rich and full life:  the medical staff and transplant teams at St. Paul's Hospital and The University Hospital (Saskatoon); the doctors and nurses of the Dialysis Unit at The Regina General Hospital and the staff at the Regina Transplant Office.  A special thanks to the Intensive Care Unit of The Pasqua Hospital who cared for Louis in his final days.

It was an absolute pleasure to know him. My deepest condolences to Louis' family. He will be greatly missed by all.

I served in F Division in the 70's and 80's and spent time on the range at Depot. The Armourers of the Force and an integral part of the operations in looking after the equipment so that it will be ready when needed. My sincerest and deepest condolences to the Levesque Family...Louis, thank you for your service.

To Hally, Elyse and Levesque family, I would like to offer my deepest heartfelt condolences for the loss of an amazing man that has positively touched the lives of many. I have known Louis since I started working as hemodialysis nurse in August 2003 and have been witness to his many trials, tribulations and triumphs over kidney failure. I will forever treasure fond memories of many conversations he shared about work, hobbies and life that voiced his love of family and pride in his daughter's accomplishments. His generosity surprising staff with special Koko pattiserie treats extended to genuine friendship with many. He has been an inspiration to many patients. I truly believe he has been instrumental in humbling me as the person behind the nurse and my desire to be better in my craft. May he rest in peace as he watches over us all up in heaven.

Hally and Elyse I am truly sorry for your loss, I met Louis when I worked in the kidney room . He was truly a nice man . I remember him talking about the both of you so much . Rest in peace Traci McInnis

As a nurse, I’m not supposed to have a “favourite client.” …But that’s not easy with a character like Louis in the mix. Over the years he was the source of so many interesting conversations. On any given day, his sharing about his family and their most recent accomplishments was so genuine. On other topics, he was honest and advocated for himself and others. I’m a better nurse for having worked with him. Rest easy Louis…and thank you sir.

Hally and Elyse we would like to offer our deepest sympathies to you both for your loss. Louis was a very special, kind person. All our love and hugs. Colleen and Frank

I’m at loss for words. Louis was such a wonderful, warm, caring person that would always encourage others. I valued our friendship greatly. He will forever be in my thoughts. RIP my friend!

Dear Hally, I am so sad to read that your beloved Louis has died. What a fighter he was. I do remember when he was first diagnosed with kidney disease. From reading the tributes, he was an inspiration to many, including the doctors. What a legacy he left! I send you sympathy as you navigate a world without him. Grief is hard and creeps up at the most unexpected times. May Louis Rest In Peace.

I had a pleasure of working with Louis during my short stint at the Renal Unit of the Regina General Hospital way back 2012. He was a great man, loving husband and proud father to his daughters. Louis, may your soul rest in eternal peace. Prayers to your family.

I cared for Louis while he was a dialysis patient. I remember how warm and welcoming he was to me when I first started working there. His positive attitude was so admirable and I know he helped provide knowledge and support to other patients. He spoke so highly of his daughter, wife and dog (also the fence he built in back yard). This loss will be felt deeply in the dialysis/kidney community. Such a wonderful man. Big hugs to his family.

We want to express our deepest condolences for your loss. Louis was a wonderful man and gave your family so many years of love and memories. I am grateful that Hally was fortunate to find such a great friend and husband. Although we haven’t seen much of you all because of logistics, the times we did share will be valued memories to treasure always. Big hugs from Darlis and Kevin.

So sorry for your loss Hally.

I knew Louis from my years of work at the RCMP. He was such a friendly and positive person. I always enjoyed running into him at the store and catching up. My condolences to his family, who will surely miss him in their lives. Ann (Molson) Knutson

HOLLY AND FAMILY I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. MY CONDOLENCES.

To theLavesque family. It’s with very heavy heart that I share this message with your’ll. I knew Louis for more than 15 yrs from the dialysis unit. We became friends & confidants. And I was not the only one. Staff too loved Louis because of his demeanour. Louis was a very strong advocate for the dialysis patients. He took his concerns up to the ministry of health. And he was listened to. As a person, he was an inspiration to us all, staff & patients. Louis handled his kidney failure & the problems that came with it a courage & sensibility that was admirable. Over the yrs, he took the punches.During his weak moments , I had the good fortune to be around. He displayed his humanity, cried with us , then she’d the tears & looked forward . His resilience is a lesson that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Louis was a patient, a friend, a confidant & an example to follow. He is one of 2 patients in my 30 yr career, than I call upon for inner strength. He is at peace now. And I have no doubt that his soul will guide us. There is no doubt in my mind, that he is special.
