Patricia Lynn Greaves

February 9th, 2023

It is with much love and sadness we announce the passing of Lynn Greaves. Lynn died at her home on February 9, 2023. Lynn was predeceased by her parents Norman and Alice Greaves of Saskatoon.  Left to cherish her memory is her sister Joan Pederson (Lyle) and Joan’s stepchildren Rob and his sons Lukas and Bennett; Shalene (Wade) and their children Neah and Rowan; and Kari (Adam) of Toronto.  Lynn will be missed by her long- time special friend Ron Russell. She also leaves to mourn her cousins and many friends.

Lynn was born in Truro, Nova Scotia and raised in Saskatoon. She worked as a Teacher, Research Officer and Biostatistician but her greatest pride was in the work she did as a Health Promotion Coordinator for the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region from 1989-2013.  Lynn was a leader in addressing Tobacco Reduction in Saskatchewan. She developed a successful smoking cessation program “Quit for Good” and in 1980, Lynn worked to develop the first city “smoking bylaw” in Western Canada. She was instrumental in ensuring the passage of provincial smoke-free legislation in Saskatchewan.  Lynn also promoted Saskatchewan’s precedent-setting ban of retail tobacco displays. As a result of her work Lynn was invited to speak at many Conferences throughout Canada and the United States as well as World Conferences in Finland and South Africa. Lynn was President of the Saskatchewan Coalition for Tobacco Reduction from 2008-2015 and developed a Tobacco Free Saskatchewan Network. She received many awards in recognition of her tireless efforts in this area.

She enjoyed travelling to warmer climates as well as her road trips. She and her sister were regulars at Craven and travelled in Canada and United States to watch her favorite country artists.

Lynn had many health challenges in the past few years and our thanks go to so many Doctors, Nurses, Home Care and Driven With Care personnel especially Marla and Michelle who all ensured that Lynn could stay in her own home until her passing. And we acknowledge Dr. Brian Laursen, Dr. James McHattie and Dr. Bonnie Richardson who were always there for Lynn.

There will not be a funeral, but a private gathering will be held with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society or a charity of your choice.

Messages:

I was saddened to learn about Lynn's passing. My sincere condolences to you Joan, whom Lynn often talked of fondly & to all her family & dear friends. She enjoyed music, sang & played piano. I got to know Lynn well during our time together in Health Promotion in the the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region. She was a very strong woman, tenacious & passionate, working hard in the area of tobacco reduction & control. She made a difference contributing to a healthier environment for all. For that we are grateful. May the good memories made with Lynn sustain her family members now.

Joan, Lyle & family, I’m so sorry to learn of the passing of your sister. May the many good memories wrap you in comfort during these very difficult days.

My sympathy and condolences to Lynn's family and friends on her passing. I worked with Lynn for many years and she accomplished a great deal in her promotion of non-smoking environments, beginning with the long-running Quit for Good Program which had many converts some coming for many sessions before success. We could kid around with Lynn and eventually would get a chuckle from her. Rest easy Lynn.

I worked with Lynn for many years on tobacco control policies. She was strong-willed, tenacious and passionate about reducing tobacco use. She made her mark on the world and for that we should all be grateful.

A woman far ahead of her time, Lynn Greaves foresaw a better world and strove to create it. We shall not see the likes of her again.

Sincere condolences on the passing of Lynn who I worked with for many years at Public Health. She had a strong dedication to prevention and was “passionate” about what she did long before it became a saying. I never once heard her say she was passionate but witnessed it daily. Her Public Health impact is long lasting. Our thoughts and prayers to Ron and all the family. Kathy and Darren Lloyd

I met Lynn while working as the Smokers' Helpline Coordinator for Saskatchewan. Lynn was a passionate, dedicated advocate for Tobacco Control. She was very proud of her work. Condolences to her family and to all who loved Lynn. May she RIP.

So sad to have received this news. Lynn finally has peace and comfort now! Our sincere condolences to her families.

My condolences to all of Lynn’s loved ones. I worked with Lynn on the tobacco control file from 1998 until her retirement. Her health promotion legacy will be felt for generations.

My condolence to Lynn’s family and friends. I was thinking about Lynn the other day as we always celebrated birthdays with cake at the office. Although there were times we didn’t agree I always admired her tenacity and dedication to creating smoke free environments in the city and province. A job well done, Lynn.
