Calvin George Pickrell

September 19th, 2021

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Calvin George Pickrell on September 19, 2021 at the age of 87 years.

Left to mourn is his partner Margaret Stark and her family; his sisters Elaine and Lenore (Larry) and their families; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who he always loved to join with at cousin camps or reunions.

He was predeceased by his wife Joyce; mother Alexas and father Herman; his brothers Jack, Robert and Clare; and his sisters Phyllis and Irma.

Calvin spent many years playing in bands including the Pickrell Pied Pipers and Mary and Friends entertaining many. He loved music and a nightly routine was to listen to a special tape as he dozed off. A beautiful singer he was always.

Calvin played ball and hockey for many years in the Semans district. He became a member of the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame for his years as part of the Decade of Champions and it was quite an honour for him. As well Calvin and his brother Robert were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He also put on skates and played old-timers hockey for many years travelling as far as Victoria to do so.

He will be greatly missed by family, friends and the community.

Donations in Calvin’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice and would be greatly appreciated.

Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in Semans Cemetery, Semans, Saskatchewan.
