Kelly Roderick Watters

June 12, 1961 - April 15, 2021

On Thursday, April 15, 2021, Kelly lost his long fought battle at the age of 59. Kelly was born on June 12, 1961 in Red Deer, Alberta, to Malachy (Mel) & Karen Watters. He moved with his family all over Alberta during his childhood and eventually that brought them to Medicine Hat. Kelly was a gifted athlete and played many sports growing up, excelling in hockey. For four years, Kelly played as a defenseman for the Junior B hockey team, the Medicine Hat Cubs. After this, he followed in his dads footsteps in the construction industry and joined the Operating Engineers Local 955 union and worked to get his crane operators ticket, something he was very proud of. After injuries, Kelly was unable to continue in that industry and held odd jobs here and there. Kelly enjoyed spending time with his family, he was always doing things with his nieces and nephews as they were growing up and watching hockey with a pack of Sweet-Tarts or his icihiban noodle concoctions.

Kelly will always be remembered and missed by his family. He is survived by his mother, Karen; his sister, Shelley Walker (Brian); his brother, Dennis Watters (Jeanette); and his aunt, Jo-Anne Delaney (Larry); his nephew, Brad Walker (Summer); and nieces, Laurie Prendergast (Connor), Amanda Watters (Sam), Kristal Watters (Chris) and Tanya Watters (Will); along with all of his great nieces & nephews, Malachi, Issiah, Mason, Reid, Neaveh, Emery, Amiyah, Bennett & Josiah. Kelly joins his father, Mel, where the two can cheer on the Edmonton Oilers together again. He would hate anyone making a fuss about him, so no service will be held. He would much rather us crack a cold beer and raise a toast to him and Celebrate his Life. Cheers to Kelly, his smile & laugh will never be forgotten.

So sorry to hear of Kelly’s passing. My deepest condolences to Aunt Karen, Shelley and family, and Dennis and family. I only ever saw Kelly laughing and smiling. My favourite memory is of him roaring up to our place in his awesome new Z28. I thought he was the coolest cousin ever. RIP Kelly.
