Judy Lynn Lucas

September 22nd, 2021

Our precious Mother Judy gained her angel wings peacefully on Wednesday, September 22nd 2021, at Claresholm, Alberta at just 70 years old. Judy’s life would seem too short to many, but those of us who were blessed to be touched by her presence understand that the imprint she left on our hearts exceeded her time with us.

Judy is predeceased by her husband, Wayne; and her mother, Margaret. Wayne and Judy’s Legacy is survived by their 4 children, Marla (Maury) and children, Ashton (Cassia), Amanda (Austin), Reegan Brett (Caro) and children, Chance, Zackary, Felicity Flint (Elise) and children, Sutton, Maybry Rustin (Aaron) and children, Conner, Colson and Westin. Judy is also survived by her father, Larry Umscheid; and siblings, Randy, Kevin, Cindy, Kendal and their families.

Judy grew up in Milo, attending school there until Grade 11. Her graduation year was completed in Vulcan before heading to SAIT in Calgary where she became a Floral Designer. Judy married her Cowboy, William Wayne Lucas in 1971. They lived briefly in Pincher Creek, then Vulcan before settling West of Claresholm in Gods Country at Lucasia Ranch. Judy loved the ranch and raising her family there. She loved spending time with her animals - her cats, dogs and birds of all kinds. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and scrapbooking. Judy was an accomplished shopper, and an avid traveller. In more recent years, she became a very talented quilter, gifting every person in her family a stunning quilt! Judy was all about Family, her extended family, her Church family, her Trout Creek family, and through the 20+ years of their ranch vacations business, she also became “family” to guests from around the world! She really had an incredible passion to better her community and bring people together. Her door was always open, food was on the table, and she always greeted you with open arms. That is how we will remember her.

Due to Covid restrictions a Private Family Service and interment will occur. In Lieu of Flowers please make a donation to Claresholm and District Health Foundation, Box 2638, Claresholm, Alberta, T0L 0T0.

To all the family, We are so sorry that we haven't written sooner, but have only just learned of Judy's death. We knew she had cancer, and did wonder last Christmas, when we didn't receive a news letter from her, letting us know how everyone was doing, if all was ok with her. We are both so sorry to have read about her passing. We always remember the fabulous time we spent with Judy, Wayne and Flint when we spent a few days at Lucasia, while we were over in Canada on holiday. An experience we never thought we would ever have, and we were made so welcome. We were again in Canada a few years ago, at the Calgary Stampede, and were lucky enough to meet both Wayne and Judy again, at the Stampede, and managed to have a wee conversation with them both. ( that was the year of the terrible flooding). Please accept our Condolences, even at this late stage. It is heartfelt I can assure you all. Ian and Frances Fraser Scotland

I don’t know how we missed hearing about Judy’s passing but just today we learned this sad news. We want to express our deep and sincere condolences to the entire Lucas Family. We were privileged to know Wayne and Judy first in the late 1970’s and again when our children were rodeoing in high school and college. They were such a great family-oriented couple and we’re pleased to have called them friends. Sam and Marcia xxx

We would sincerely send our sympathies to the Lucas Family. It is always hard to say good bye to your Mom. Our son in law remembers your mom inviting him and our boy in for a delicious lunch after doing some vet work on the ranch. Your Mom’s kindness will always be remembered in our community and beyond. Remember the good times you had with her.

So deeply saddened to hear (sorry, just found out) of Judy's passing. Judy was a beautiful and caring person to all that knew and loved her. Our sincere sympathy to the Lucas and Umscheid families.

Judy and I bonded. Over my (at the time) up-coming trip to Ireland. We bonded. Over everything. It would be difficult to say who out-talked the other. I'm going to miss her. I'm going to miss our chats. I'm going to miss seeing her come through our doors with that amazing smile. My deepest sympathies are going out to her family. So many of us will miss that great lady. Hugs and love and sympathy.. The Ship What is dying I am standing on the seashore, a ship sails in the morning breeze and starts for the ocean. She is an object of beauty and I stand watching her till at last she fades on the horizon and someone at my side says: "She is gone." Gone! Where Gone from my sight that is all. She is just as large in the masts, hull and spars as she was when I saw her, and just as able to bear her load of living freight to its destination. The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me, not in her, and just at the moment when someone at my side says, "She is gone" there are others who are watching her coming, and other voices take up a glad shout: "There she comes!" and that is dying. We were very saddened to hear of Judy's passing. It was always such a pleasure to have a visit with Judy when we crossed paths. Our sincere Condolences to the Lucas Family. Judy will be long remembered for her generosity and loving ways.

We were saddened to hear of Judy's passing. Our association with her and Wayne began in 2000 when I opened Saddle Mountain Mechanical. They continued to bring their machinery in for repair after our move to Stavely, and it was a pleasure to get to know them a bit over two decades. Juliana and I send our heartfelt condolences to the family, and pray that their faith, family and friends will sustain them through this very difficult season.

I like what you said in your moms biography about her being back with her cowboy Wayne, and I’m sure they’ve had a great reunion! I’ve known your folks since they moved out west to the ranch. What fine people they are! Always fun to be around, always welcoming, smiles on their faces, good company. It’s hard to lose our parents, so I hope that you feel comfort and peace in time. We miss them everyday! They are great influences on us! Thinking of you all! ❤️

We met Judy and Wayne years ago and we shared many happy times with them and the family. You, her family, have paid a beautiful tribute to Judy that captures the very essence of who she was. She was taken to soon but had more than a full life spent and not one moment wasted. Her imprint will be a lasting one. She left nothing but the very best footprints for not only her family but for all of us to follow and be better for it. We will miss her. Our hearts go out to all of you, her families and many friends who share your sorrow.

Time spent with Judy and Wayne has given me a lifetime’s worth of cherished memories. I went to Lucasia ranch for the first time in 2016 to ride among the cattle in the foothills, but kept going back because the friendships felt like family, and bonds were made that will last a lifetime. I will miss Judy very much. My deepest condolences to her family.

My sincere condolences to the Lucas family, my heart goes out to you all. She will be greatly missed, a beautiful person in and out.

I had the privilege of Judy and Wayne's hospitality and kindness through a wonderful week on Lucasia Ranch in 2016. It may have only been a week, but it's one of my most treasured trips ever. I absolutely second just how much Judy welcomed people into her home. I was a stranger, but in that week never felt like one. I have fond memories of sitting at the table with the most deliciously cooked food and chatting with other holidaying ranchers like myself, but listening to Judy and Wayne banter with one another. What a special couple. My condolences to her family who have lost a special woman, but know that she has left so many memories for you to smile about.

Sincere condolences to all of Judys wonderful family and friends. My time spent at Lucasia Ranch, though short, will forever be in my heart. Judy was one of the kindest, most beautiful souls I've ever met.

Sincere condolences to Judy's family. She will be missed.
