Anna Christina MacKay

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce Anna passed away peacefully in her sleep at St. Marguerites Manor, in Calgary, Alberta on Saturday, October 17, 2020. Anna was born June 5, 1929 in Montreal, Quebec to Anna and George Frost. In 1952, she moved to Alberta, first to Edmonton, then Calgary, Red Deer and finally settling and spending over 3 decades in Ponoka. In Ponoka, Anna owned and ran the Greyhound Bus Depot for many years meeting life long friends,. In Ponoka, Anna also spend countess hours and years with the Woman of the Moose. She loved giving back to her community organizing banquets, running bingo and charity programs with Dad by her side. She lost the love of her life Nellis Mackay in September 1987. Starting in summer 1988 she started spending her time at Carefree Resort where she enjoyed 30 years of summers until 2018. These years grew memories and joy with family and friends, pot luck dinners, campfires and watching her family grow. She was famously known as GRAMMA GROUCH to her 18 grandchildren an 13 great-grandchildren, each with incredible stories and memories of this wonderful woman whose 91 years left an indelible memory of her firecracker spirit. Anna was always focused on providing for her family. Her sense of humour was always front and centre which was passed on to her eight children. Anna was predeceased by her daughter, Cindy Neels (Dave), in 1992; and her son, Alfred Croft in 2019. She is survived by Linda Barrett (Bob), George Croft (Lynn), Rose Flinkman (Ken), Darlene Croft, Sherril Fix, Rhonda Hickman (Murray). A Celebration of Life and interment will be announced at a later date.
