Megan Mae Erickson

October 10th, 2020

On Saturday, October 10, 2020, Megan Mae Erickson, age 21, passed away at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary. Kyle and Dana Erickson lost their beloved daughter, Megan, and her life was tragically cut short in a deadly car crash.

Megan was born on December 7, 1998. Megan was a beautiful child with bouncing blonde curls, striking ocean blue eyes, and an infectious smile that would touch any soul she met. Life was not always easy for Megan. Outwardly, she was an inspiring young woman with a courageous smile, contagious laugh, and most importantly, a forgiving heart. However, inwardly, Megan had her own hidden struggles. We are so proud that she faced these struggles and overcame them. This strength of character gave her confidence and allowed her to adapt, change, and thrive. As she grew older, she recognized her own gifts, talents, and worth. This inspired Megan to reach her potential and beyond. As of late, Megan made the important decision to surround herself with others who would support her dreams and goals. Her mother and father were her greatest supports, along with dear friends who encouraged her in the pursuit of fulfilling her dreams. Megan had finally become the woman she aspired to be and was enrolled for Delmar College this coming November. In preparation, Megan bought herself a vehicle and began to save up. Megan was so happy, she even started wearing her naturally curly hair again, she loved life and she was just beginning a beautiful journey.

Megan rose above so many of life’s challenges and she did so with grace and courage, may all of us who were touched by her beautiful old soul take this to heart. Megan, we will miss seeing your beautiful smile, appreciating your incredible artistic imagination and your love of music which touched our hearts with songs.

Megan Mae Erickson is lovingly remembered by her mother, Dana; her father Kyle; brother; Jesse; and will be sadly missed by her uncle, Lonnie (Bev) Erickson; her cousins, Leigh, Jake (Cassandra), and Mattie (Chris); grandmother, Sharon Erickson; uncle, Tom (Julie) Crowther; her cousins, Promise, Callysta, and Renae; nana, Pat Lainsbury; numerous great-aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends. She was predeceased by her grandfathers, Russ Erickson, Tom Crowther, and Robert Salant.

"The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all"
Soar high our beautiful angel
Eternally loved and forever missed
Love, Mom, Dad, Cooper, and your precious Elton

At this time, a Celebration of Megan Mae Erickson’s Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a go fund me page has been made in her honor.

Time for me to go now, I won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, way up in the sky.
In the morning sunrise when all the world is new,
Just look for me and love me, as you know I loved you.

Time for me to go now, I won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, way up in the sky.
In the evening sunset,
when all the world is through,
Just look for me and love me
And I'll be close to you.

It won't be forever, the day will come and then
My loving arms will hold you
when we meet again.

Time for us to part now, we won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, shining in the sky.
Every waking moment and
all your whole life through
Just look for me and love me,
as you know I loved you.

Just wish me near to you,
And I'll be there with you.

Messages:

Dear Dana, Kyle and family, I am so sorry to hear of your great loss. My heart aches for you all. Words cannot begin to convey my deepest heartfelt condolences to you and your family. I am so sorry.

Sending love and strength to your family as you mourn the loss of beautiful Megan. Megan was a part of a girls group that I ran at St. Luke's the year she was in grade 11. She was always such a considerate, kind and compassionate young lady. During a field trip to the city I took the girls to one of the beauty colleges. The college offered us a complementary nail service and all of us had our nails painted by students who were just learning the techniques. The gal who did Megan's nails really struggled and they didn't look the greatest... but Megan was so sweet and kind to her. She never complained or made any snide remarks. Megan expressed her gratitude to the gal and thanked her multiple times before we left. Once outside she showed me her nails and we had a bit of a laugh about it. I think she said something like... "oh well I will just take it off when I get home. She is still learning" This interaction was an example of Megan's kind and pure heart. She didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I will treasure the memories I have of Megan. Please accept my most sincere condolences.

My deepest condolences to the Erickson family. Megan had a beautiful spirit and was a very strong woman. May she rest in peace.

We send all our love to the Erickson family xx

My condolences to your family.

My thoughts are with you during this time. I was Megan's instructor at Bow Valley College last fall. Megan was a special human, filled with resilience, who wanted to support young people and families. I appreciated her gifts and willingness to share and know she would have been an invaluable child and youth care practitioner.
