September 14, 1951 - December 31, 2020

It is with heaviest of hearts that we have to say good-bye to our beloved brother, uncle, granpa, dad and remarkable friend. Ian passed away from Heart Failure on New Years Eve. He was born in York, Yorkshire, England immigrating to Canada with his family in 1965. He was very well known for his work with youth and young adults in the Lethbridge area. Throughout the years he worked with The Young Offenders Centre, McMann Youth Services and most recently with Peak Support Services. He is lovingly remembered by his grandson, ward by choice Echo Adams; his loving sisters, Christine (George) Dunn and Gillian (KP) Capewell; his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews all of whom will miss his supportive words of wisdom and love. Ian was well known for his card writings and those cards will be cherished and re-read over the years to come. Always one to try and find good in a bad situation Ian donated his corneas in hopes of helping someone benefit from this tragedy. He was pre-deceased by his much loved mum, Muriel (1974);  niece, Kelly Capewell (1991); nephew, Lyle Scott Madge (2009); and most recently his awesome dad, Thomas (2018). Due to covid  we are figuring out a safe way for people to Celebrate Ian's life. A Private Family Internment will be in late spring early summer at Queens Park Cemetery in Calgary with his Mum and Dad as per his wishes.  Loved and Remembered forever and a day Your Loving Family. In lieu of flowers Please show your support for Stars or Halo Air Ambulance. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.myalternatives.ca

I'm very sorry to hear that Ian has passed away. At 14, Ian was one of my earliest "boyfriends" and I remember spending evenings listening to Jimi Hendrix with his good friend in the basement. We were amazed at the sounds. Rest in happiness and music.

I can’t believe this is real. My heart goes out to those reading this. Ian made my day constantly. He was so fun to see at Peak; always made sure to take his time to have a real conversation with you. I appreciated him so much! When I would bump into him somewhere and he always talked about spending time with “MY BOY!”, as he always put it. God damn he will be missed. I send you all my love and I know he’s sending you all his love right now. Take care of yourselves. I can only imagine how hard this is. Thank you for sharing Ian with me. - Zac

I’m so sad to find out about the passing of Ian. I worked at McMan Youth as Admin Assistant in Picture Butte when they had a group home there. That is where I met Ian. He was a caring person and had a great rapport with the kids. He was a calm influence for them. Loved the old Jag he drove. My condolences to his family and friends.

I had the pleasure of working with Ian. He was always so positive and excited about everything he did. He put 100% of himself into anything important to him. He’d get a huge smile and a sparkle in his eye when he’d talk about his little guy. I’d like to send sincere condolences to his family. He will be missed!
