We are sad to announce the passing of Peter Wing (93) on 17 June 2023, after a brief stay in Mission Memorial Hospital. Born 15 November 1929 in Surrey, England, the eldest of three children; sisters Carol and Joan soon followed.
Peter displayed a strong sense of adventure from an early age. Farming was in his blood, and at the age of 19 he first set out for Canada, where he worked in a variety of jobs before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force. He trained as an aircraft mechanic and was posted back to England.
Peter married Jo, a close friend of his sisters, and the family grew to include five daughters. Over the years, they moved from Surrey to Devon in England; to southern Ontario; British Columbia; back to England – the Isle of Wight; and eventually back to BC.
Peter was a heavy-duty mechanic for many years, working on Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii before retiring to the Fraser Valley where he put his agricultural knowledge to good use on a hobby farm. He enjoyed gardening to the end.
Left to miss him are Jo, daughters Deb (Keith), Mandy (Ham), Petrina (John), Jackie (Paul), and Rowena (Bill); grandchildren Brett (Robin), Matt (Breanne), Dean (Chelsey), Callum (Hannah), Rachel (Mitch), Finn (Steph), Chloe (Robbie), and Sophie; and great-grandchildren Aston, Owen, Brody, Devyn, Hayden, Johnny, Abram, Bo, Dalilah, Indie, Elsie, and Albert. Also missing him are his sister Joan, the whole extended family, and friends near and far.
