Ila Getra J Nelson

July 24th, 2023

Ila Getra J Nelson has gone on to her maker after 99 years, with her children by her bedside, on July 24 at VGH. She is survived by son Edwin Nelson and daughters Marlene Boucher (Rodney), and Deborah Kilborn, grandsons Ryan and Tyler, granddaughters Tammy, Kristine and Karen, nieces, nephews, grandnephews and nieces.  Ila was an accomplished pianist who shared her passion of music by teaching.  She also enjoyed aerial photography, sewing, reading and drawing.  She is remembered as a kind and gentle lady, loved by all she met with a favorite saying “let’s see what tomorrow brings."

Messages:

My condolences to the Nelson family. When I last saw Getra, I recall her warm & inviting, with a funny side to her. She knew how to enjoy life, and kept it simple. I know Eddie will miss the Canucks games they loved to watch. She will be watching in a better place, and who knows one day they may win it all! God bless your family.

I have looked after Getra for 23 years as her Family Physician. She aged about as gracefully as anyone could. I had always enjoyed our visits, since no matter what was going on she had a smile on her face! She was a brave person who hated to complain( but sometimes had to, to me). I feel her life ended on her own terms, which is the only way she would feel acceptable. I will miss our visits. Dr.Randi Izen

Aloha Getra, What a Great Role Model you are for all of us! I Celebrate your Life by knowing that you enjoyed my singing to you (always off key) & that you got a kick out of me always telling your jokes when I taught classes. Mahalo for being you and for your daughter Marlene, the Love of My Life. With Love and Aloha, your Son-in-Law Rodney
