Please leave words of love and support for the family.

Messages:

Dear Juli, I will always treasure the years I spent getting to know Dick while teaching at Kwantlen. I enjoy his painting on my wall every day and hope that a show of his work is being planned. He will always be an inspiration to me as an artist and as a friend.

To my beloved husband Richard: Though you passed away a year ago, your presence lingers on. It feels like you're still walking and moving about the rooms in the house. I cherish the memories we created together. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure by your loving wife Juliana. To those of you who have written their remembrances of Richard: I would like to take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation for your kind words. They mean so much to me. Thank you.

We were searching to find any recent info on Dick to reconnect after a number of years and found his obituary. So sad to hear of his passing. We met Dick when we were part of a group of artists and educators who were brought together by staff at the Surrey Art Gallery in 1982/83 to meet with the Surrey City Council to advocate for keeping the Art Gallery as a valuable asset for the City. Our founding meeting was in a Newton pub. The Surrey Art Gallery Association was formed by this group, set up as a non-profit society dedicated to supporting and advocating for the Gallery and up to this day is a valuable partner to the Gallery and City. Dick was instrumental in helping to set this up. He is and will be missed and remembered. Thank you Dick.

I am greatly saddened to hear of Dick's passing. He was my mentor and inspiration at Kwantlen Polytechnic. The best teacher I ever had. His kindness and tireless encouragement will never be forgotten. I recently saw a 2012 video of him working in his studio. It brought back many wonderful memories. Rest in peace, Dick. You are missed.

So very sorry for your loss Juli, I was just told of Richards passing. I awaken each day to a black and white painting he did back in 1965. I fondly remember the family gatherings, with Richard and Eddy always having fun and brightening up the evening. Wherever Richard is, I'm sure he's smiling down on us all. What a lovely fellow he was, he will be missed by many. Be well. Robin Wade.

Dear Juli, Thank you for updating us on Dick’s health. We were saddened to hear of his passing. The picture of him brings back memories as every time we visited he showed us his garden which was always lovely. He will be missed. Thinking of you. Love, Sher & Pete

Dear Juliana, condolences to you and family. Ann Nelson called me about Dick's passing. I'm thinking about Dick's classes I took at Douglas College. His enthusiasm and love of art, I will not forget. He left his mark with students. Thank you Dick. One class I particularly remember was painting a night scene out in the parking lot of Douglas College. I still have that painting.
