James (Jim) Elias Bobb

December 6th, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jim Bobb on December 6, 2018 at the age of 78.

Jim was born and raised in East Vancouver – a devoted son to John and Stevie, and protective older brother to Steanna. He graduated from Britannia Secondary School and continued his studies at UBC, where he earned his B.Pharm in 1964. While attending UBC he was elected President of the Pharmacy Undergraduate Society and participated in many extra-curricular activities, especially ones involving beer. After graduating, he began his pharmacy career and spent 35 years as an associate (pharmacist/owner) with Shoppers Drug Mart – a career that gained him many lasting friendships.

Jim was a true west coast guy who loved the outdoors and being out on the water. He was a daredevil who pursued and coached many sports, but windsurfing and hockey were his passions. He also spent many hours on the links whacking a ball around, but we would hesitate to call what he did “golfing”.  Jim was also fortunate to have indulged his love of travel - seeing much of the world while enjoying plenty of good food and wine.

Much as he loved all of the above, he cherished his family most of all.  He met Maureen, the love of his life, on a blind date, and for him at least, it was love at first sight. Maureen took a bit of convincing but came around to realize what a wonderful man he was.  During their 53 years of marriage they built a life in Port Coquitlam and raised three children: Chari (David) Grant, Sean (May) Bobb, and Jeffrey Bobb; and were devoted to their six grandchildren: Kiara, Zini, Tobi, Miles, Tristan and Alec. Jim also had a special place in his heart for his sister’s daughter, niece Heather, and took her under his wing when Steanna died in August 2000.

Jim is survived, and will be missed terribly, by his immediate family and a large extended family including step-siblings, siblings-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He will also be missed by many colleagues and friends, including those in the OWA and the Coachmen.

A celebration of life will be held for Jim on Saturday February 2, 2019 at 2pm at the Port Coquitlam Legion – 2675 Shaughnessy St., Port Coquitlam.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Crossroads Hospice, the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation, or Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.

You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
