Kirsten Anvik

August 8th, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kirsten E. Anvik on August 8, 2018 at age 43 years.

Kirsten was a beautiful, vibrant young lady.  In her early childhood she played on sports teams, played the piano, excelled in her schoolwork and was a friend to everyone she knew.  At age twelve she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and after surgery, chemotherapy and radiation her life was forever changed.  In spite of physical and academic obstacles, she soldiered on, setting goals for her recovery and finding ways to cope with her new physical and learning disabilities.

Kirsten had an indomitable spirit.  She was always willing to try new things and when a door closed, she would look for another way to accomplish her goals.  Kirsten was aware of, and grateful for, all those who helped her and she constantly looked for ways that she could “pay it forward”.   She is now free of all the physical challenges imposed by her body and we know that she is busy serving and helping others in ways she never could before.  Kirsten is survived by her parents, Dr. John O. Anvik and Ms Sandra L. (Harmon) Anvik, both of Chilliwack, BC and four brothers:  John K. (Danielle) of Lethbridge, AB,  Nels (Tricia) of Victoria, BC,  Karl (Cassandra) of Calgary, AB and Arvid (Jolayne) also of Calgary,  AB.  She also leaves behind 13 nieces and nephews and many extended family members and friends.

You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.

Messages:

Kirsten... one of the most beautiful persons I know. I was lucky enough to have been a classmate of hers in elementary school. I remember playing with her at her home when we went to Unsworth. It was so emotional watching her walk across the stage with her Grad class. A standing ovation... what a resilient strong woman! Kirsten impacted my life immensely.

As a classmate of John’s and as a pet owner client of Jack, I remember Kirsten. I did not know her before the tumour but what I did see was a strong, vibrant young lady. I am deeply saddened to hear of her loss. My heart and best wishes go out to your family.

I remember getting to know Kirsten in high school, where I had the opportunity to be a peer tutor for her during French class. She had a great deal of determination and persistence and was unfailingly cheerful. My condolences to your family during this time of loss. Margaree

Jack: I'm sorry to hear of the death of your daughter. While this may mean the end of challenges in this world, I am sure that it leaves a hole in your heart as well as that of members of the family. May you find peace and comfort in this time of loss. michael

Kirsten was a wonderful person. We have fond memories of her babysitting Steven and Brianna many years ago. They loved having her! Kirsten’s bright smile and laughter brought joy to those around her. I also remember Kirsten volunteering at Unsworth Elementary. Oh how the children and staff loved having her! Our thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with your family. Blessings..... Dear Sandy, dear John, we know your family for a very long time and remember your daughter as a wonderful little girl. We are very sad to hear that she passed away at a very early age. Our thoughts are with you and we feel with you and the whole family.

As an educator for 35 years there have been a few outstanding individuals who have left a significant impact on me. Kirsten is one of these individuals. The strength and positive outlook on life that she possessed were truly incredible. She was an amazing role model...a wonderful human being who demonstrated perseverance, commitment and a wonderful sense of humour. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this difficult time. Kirsten made me a better person.

Dear Sandy, I just read of Kirsten’s passing. How terriblysad! I have lovely memories of happier times of Kirsten coming to help in your classroom at Unsworth. She was always upbeat and appeared so happy to lend a hand with your energetic Grade Oners! So great to have her help! I’m happily retired and finally living with Gord in Nanaimo. My daughter Andrea, her husband and my fun loving 6 year old grandson live here as well. I’m so fortunate! I just wanted to reach out to you and let you know that I am thinking of you. Kathy Lowe

Sincere condolences to Kirsten's family. She was a remarkable young lady who was an inspiration to us all.
