Isidora Mihelic
1940 - 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Isidora (Dora) Mihelic on Friday, January 17, 2025, at the age of 84 years.
Dora was born in Knezak, Slovenia, on March 28, 1940, the oldest daughter of Franc and Franciska (née Samsa) Knafelc. Dora's life was one of resilience, hard work, and love. In 1958, she met Ivan in a refugee camp in Italy, and they married on February 17, 1959. Together, they embarked on a difficult and uncertain journey to Canada, leaving behind their homeland and everything familiar to them. The path to building a new life in a foreign land was filled with challenges, but Dora’s strength and determination carried her through. In Canada, they raised two daughters and built a life from the ground up, always focused on giving their family a better future.
Dora worked tirelessly in her new country, taking on various jobs, including long hours working nights and in retail, all while adapting to a new culture and language. The journey was not easy, but Dora's dedication to supporting her family never faltered. Through every challenge, she remained steadfast, always putting her loved ones first.
In addition to her work, Dora was known for her love of cooking and baking. Her meals, prepared with care and love, brought comfort and joy to all who were fortunate enough to experience them. Her generosity and warmth were felt by everyone she encountered. When spending time at home, Dora enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, knitting and crocheting, and loved her vegetable and flower gardens.
She was predeceased by her parents Franc and Franciska and her sister Gabrijela (Peter). Left to mourn her passing are her devoted husband Ivan, daughter Frida, grandchildren Nicole (Justin) and Davis (Alyshea), great-grandchildren Zephyrin and Case; daughter Janette (Edward), grandchildren Carson and Lauren; cousin Fanika, niece Marijana, and grandnephews Jaka and Luka.
Our family wishes to thank all the staff who cared for Dora at Extendicare Parkside. Additional thanks to the paramedics, the Pasqua Hospital nurses, physicians, and staff. We are so grateful for your dedication to your profession and your kindness and compassion.
A celebration of Dora’s life will be a private family event.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Regina Hospital Foundation www.hrf.sk.ca or to any charity that is important to you.
Dora’s legacy of love, dedication, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
