Yvonne Margaret Hawkins

September 7, 1928 – February 15, 2025

On February 15, 2025, we lost our beautiful Mom, Yvonne. David our brother and our Dad John (Jack) welcomed her with open arms into heaven. She was 96 years old. She is survived by her 4 children Mark (Marcy), Wade (Pam), Wanda (John), Dale (Cindy) and Karene (Susey - daughter-in-law); grandchildren Travis, Cole (Rebecca), Bailey (Danny), Jordan, Mikaela (Kyle), Carly (Kohl), Ryan (Naina), Courtney (Travis), Grace and Jack; providing Mom with great joy were her great grandchildren Charlotte, Henry, Theo and Rosalie, Michael and Hailie; brother Thomas Desroches, sister-in-laws Joan Desroches, Anita Desroches; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born to Herbert and Margaret (Reagan) Desroches September 7, 1928 in Laverna, SK, Yvonne spent her early years growing up in several small towns, as her dad opened various branches of the Bank of Toronto throughout Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta. Following high school, Mom also began working in the Bank of Toronto with her dad. She worked in many communities, making friends and memories in every location. Mom worked for Trans World Airlines in Winnipeg, MB and eventually she ended up working at Central Mortgage and Housing in Regina. It was in Regina, while doing the books for a small garage, she met and married the owner, Jack. Mom and Dad moved to Cyprus Hills Provincial Park where dad was a conservation officer in the North Park while Mom was tasked with picking the cones from the lodge pole pine trees to be used to replant the forest. Eventually Dad began working for Sask Power and they moved to Rosetown where Mark and Wade were born. In 1961, a move to Estevan was made where Wanda, Dale and David were added to the family. Estevan became home for 45 years.

Mom enjoyed being a part of the Estevan community. She was a member of the CWL and the Red Hats ladies’ group and was part of the Estevan Minor Hockey board. She managed the lottery ticket fundraising for minor hockey and later she worked at the local Saan store. She enjoyed playing the piano, curling, golfing and fishing! She loved camping at Kenosee Lake, Cypress Hills, Good Spirit, Crystal Lake, Madge Lake and many other locations with her family. In later years, Mom loved her time travelling to El Centro for the winters. Mom was a proud independent person who always took care of her family. She loved to socialize, dance, sing and mostly laugh! She was so happy when the violin and accordion came out. She would sing along and tap her toes with her great grandkids whom she adored. Mom was proud of her grandchildren and loved when they called her or were able to visit. We loved our Mom and she loved us. She will be dearly missed! Rest in peace, Mom!

Thank you to the nursing and medical staff at the Pasqua Hospital and the staff on the Hospice ward at the Wascana Rehabilitation Center. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am Saturday March 15, 2025 at St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church – 5020 7th Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan.

What beautiful words for a wonderful lady. Auntie Yvonne’s bubbly laughter was contagious. She brightened up every room. And, she did a great job of raising her children, my fun cousins. Farewell, Auntie. Enjoy the party with the gang upstairs. Xoxo Nicole & Andy and Family ~ Nicole Wenger

Mark and Marcy and the Hawkins family, we send our most heartfelt condolences on the passing of Mark’s mom. May she rest in peace and May you be comforted by your memories. ~ Terri and Mark St.Onge

For the better part of the past 3 years, Yvonne was part of a small congregation of Roman Catholic residents of Regina Village. I began doing a lay service at Regina Village, weekly in early March 2022 and Joanne has assisted me for about 2 1/2 years. The unfortunate thing about our weekly visits is that we do not get to know the families of those we minister to. Yvonne was a quiet presence weekly until recently when she would only come whenever she felt well enough. We really do miss her presence but she has gone home, to the reward she journeyed toward all her life. Your endearing words of remembrance attest to the loving, kind person she was in life. I remember back to just before Christmas 2023, I was lunching at the Royal Regina Golf club and Yvonne was there with her son - there to buy a gift certificate for someone. I met the son that was with her that day but, as we age the ability to remember diminishes so regrettably, I don't remember the name. Maybe we'll get to say high next Saturday at the funeral. God willing, I'll be there as part of the choir. Joyful blessings to all of Yvonne's family, may you be comforted! Sincerely, Richard & Joanne Mantyak. ~ Richard and Joanne Mantyak
