Alice Florence Ann Hanlon (nee Barker)

November 25th, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce that Alice passed away on November 25, 2022 at the age of 80. She was predeceased by her parents Leonard and Florence (née Fripp), ex-husband Leonard and special grandson Travis. Alice is survived by her sons Darryl (Debbie) of Medicine Hat, Alberta and Jamieson of Edmonton, Alberta and daughter Sabrina (Bob) Kusek of Nashville, Tennessee. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jackie, Marcus, Matthew, Joel, Katya and by several great-grandchildren.

Alice was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. She was a proud Central Collegiate alumnus, graduating in 1960. She was thrilled to take part in the school’s closing reunion and relive her fond high school memories. She went on to complete studies at Success Business College, moving on to employment with Case, Cockshutt, John Deere and North American Life. After raising her family, she returned to the workforce in 1985, working in various admin positions with the federal and provincial governments. She later parlayed her soft skills into successful stints working at Sears and later Staples/Quill call centres. She was known to be a quick learner and was cited for her professionalism and commitment to meeting client needs.

Alice made many enduring friendships throughout her life, enjoying outings and coffees. She was an avid musician in her early years and enjoyed playing the piano. She loved playing cribbage and enjoyed curling. She had a passion for gardening and would often be found puttering amongst her flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed travelling and was fond of trips to places such as Manitou Beach, Cannington Manor and Ontario’s Gananoque/1000 Islands as well as visits to the U.S.A., including Tennessee and Missouri. In her later years, her interest in current affairs deepened and she became more interested in local and international politics and seniors’ rights. Alice was also fond of animals, raising many dogs and cats over her lifetime, none so special as her friends Pussums, Charleigh and Mimo.

Thanks to the doctors and nurses of Units 3A/3D Pasqua Hospital, Regina, Saskatchewan for taking care of Mum in her final days. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring 2023. Donations are greatly appreciated to Lung Saskatchewan (www.lungsask.ca) or Regina Humane Society (www.reginahumanesociety.ca).

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 1861 McIntyre Street, on June 10 at 10 a.m.
All friends of Alice's are invited to attend.
A private interment will be held in Manor, Sask.

Messages:

I first crossed paths with Alice through her mom, Florence, either in Vibank during my stay with Martin or at the Trailer Court in Regina. Albeit always busy with school, work, and later business, I never forgot them. Those moments stand out as my fondest memories in life. Florence served as a second mother figure in my life. Observing my haphazard approach to laundry, she insisted on taking charge. Every piece was meticulously folded or ironed, with missing buttons promptly replaced and any tears expertly repaired. Her generosity extended beyond laundry – she insisted on feeding me and sending food home with me every time. I often ran into Alice and her Children there. Years later, One of Alice’s sons visited my Jazz Club in Regina, but our connection remained elusive. Florence later told me that her granddaughter and I lived in the same condo complex, yet the connection never materialized. Years passed, I discovered Florence's obituary; I regret missing the chance to reconnect. Today I found Alice’s Obit. She was a hardworking woman, diligently caring for three young children. Her entire family were wonderful people. May her soul rest in peace, and may God bless her.

My mom Jean and I have wonderful memories of Alice from years ago. She had an amazing sense of humour and great patience. I am sad we lost touch over the years, but we will always remember her very fondly. Our deepest condolences to your family.

My sympathy to the family, very sorry for your loss. I had called her about 3 weeks ago and had a long visit, she was on top of everything from the past. She did miss and love her family. Rest In Peace.

rest in peace my dearfriend

May she Rest In Peace. Gone but not forgotten

Rest in peace Grandma
