Anona (Nonie) Eileen Schmidt

May 31st, 2020

It is with great sadness we say goodbye to Anona (Nonie) Eileen Schmidt. Nonie passed away peacefully on May 31, 2020, with family by her side, at the age of 82 years. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Bill Schmidt (1977). She will be lovingly remembered by her family Debbie (Randy) Howatt, grandchildren Louie (Megan), Megan, Danielle and great-granddaughter Amani; Grant (Lyn) Schmidt, grandchildren Brett (Nicole), Jason (Ali) and great-grandchildren Stellan and Abigail; Connie (Lyle) Brandt, grandchildren Graham (Andrea), Garrett, Deidre and great-granddaughter Zaidi; surviving siblings and their spouses; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She will also be greatly missed and remembered by her special friend and partner of over 30 years, Bruce Molleken and his son Colin.

The family is very grateful for the outstanding caregivers at Casa Bella long term care home.  The staff and residents became a second family to mom and our family.

Nonie was born the ninth child of what would be eleven for her parents Hazle and George Pattyson. They lived on a farm near Oxbow, Saskatchewan. Nonie moved to Regina as a young woman, where she met Bill Schmidt. They were married in 1959 and resided in Regina, where they welcomed their three children Debbie, Grant and Connie. Once the kids were all in school, Nonie began working at Regina Pioneer Village as a Nurses Aide, a job that she loved and remained at for over 30 years.

Nonie was a great caregiver and was always going out of her way for family and friends.

In 1977, Bill passed away suddenly and Nonie found herself a single parent, raising three children. We know mom had been nervous about this new role of hers, but she loved, supported, guided and was always there for us at anytime. She provided us with a great example of what one person could do, and for that we will be forever grateful.

In 1980, Nonie was reacquainted with an old neighbour of ours, Bruce.  The two of them shared many happy years together and were a huge part of the grandchildren’s lives.

Due to recent restrictions, a Private Family Graveside Service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.
