Devon James McCrum

It is with great sadness we, the family of Devon McCrum, announce that Devon passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at the Regina General Hospital at the age of 45 years with family by his side.  

Devon is survived by his wife Jennifer; beloved daughters Victoria and Samantha; parents Jim and Heather McCrum; brother Colan (Kathy); nephew Fynn; niece Maeve; in-laws Bill and Carroll Castle; sister-in-law Susan (Bruce) Hodges; nephew Jack Hodges; niece Sara Hodges; and brother-in-law Andrew Castle.  He is also survived by his Aunt and Uncle Dale and Edna Wilde and his cousins Cathy, Karin, Laurie and their families.

Devon was a loving, devoted father and uncle, known for his unique ability to connect with all kids. He had a passionate love for sports (especially USC college football). He was full of energy and life when he was on the field as a coach, helping his daughters and many kids learn to work together and excel at sports. We will miss his infectious smile, the sparkle in his eyes and his recognizable sense of humour. Devon's memory will forever live within our hearts.  

The family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible staff in the Regina General Hospital Emergency and MICU Wards. A special thank you to the many cherished friends that have supported the family during this difficult time.  

The Celebration of Life will take place at the Conexus Arts Centre, 200 Lakeshore Drive, Regina, SK on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. Masks are recommended.

Devo was a great friend. He was cherished by our peer group growing up at LeBoldus for his generosity, charisma and sense of humour. Devo was a great athlete who was passionate about sports. Our sincere condolences to the whole family. I can remember Devo's laugh like it was yesterday. His easy going spirit was contagious. I have great memories of Devo playing minor hockey together, high school at Leboldus and really amazing times over the years. Its really sad to lose such big hearted guy. McCrum family; I’m so sorry to hear Devon passed away, please accept my deepest condolences. I went to elementary school with Devon, and I have the most wonderful memories of laughing and playing capture the flag with him during our gr 7/8 camping field trip. Although we hadn’t seen each other in 30 years, I remember him and his dimples clearly. Take good care of each other, and although it can be incredibly difficult, don’t hesitate to ask for support (from friends or counselling agencies) if you need it.

To Jim, Heather, Colan, Jenn and Devon’s baby girls. Seeing Devon’s grin in the obituaries left me reeling. I remember him as a Laughing, joking, cocky, happy lad at the the Centre of the Arts working for so proudly for his Dad. When I last saw him we talked USC Trojan football, and his nephew Finns’s hockey. Only the Trojans had a winning season. We wrap you with our memories.

It is hard to come up with the words to express our sadness and condolences. My family and I are heartbroken and shocked to find out that Devon passed. Our deepest condolences to Jenni, Victoria, Samantha, Heather, Jim, Colan, his whole family and friends. My family and I will keep his memory alive by our fond memories of his laughter, generosity and his permanent smile that gave joy. His memory will live on with us always.

Heather, Jim & Jennifer... our hearts go out to you all. Devon was such a character and his infectious smile and personality touched many. So many great memories with him from high school days and the football camps down at USD/SDSU with Scott and Colin. In more recent years, our interactions were brief and most often related to bragging rights between Notre Dame and USC. I love that he never lost his love of college football and shared that passion with his entire family. He will be missed.

He was always my 3rd son during our Regina years. Those 8 years set the tone for our keeping in touch with him and his special family for all these years later. Thom said recently Devon was there for him as he learned about diabetes and even gave Thom shots. What a friend he was and so kind and gracious. I’m truly saddened to have lost my homeboy from fourth grade until forever... He is the Ultimate definition of a real and authentic friend and brother from another mother!!! Every time we hung out it was nothing but crazy fun and memories that make you bust out laughing!
