Robert Thomas Hitchens

March 27th, 1952 ~ August 24th, 2020

Robert passed away on August 24, 2020 at the age of 68 years in the Regina Wascana Rehabilitation Centre.

Born in Lundar Manitoba, he was the son of Edith Hokanson and Thorburger Benjaminson. They lived around Lundar because their dad was a carpenter for the elevator company. They then moved to Balcarres, Saskatchewan where their dad passed away on November 29, 1953; then on December 1, 1953 his brother Ron was born in the Balcarres Hospital. Bob, Ron and their mother lived in their mother’s house in Balcarres for a few years; this is where Edith met Roy Hitchens. Roy raised the boys as his own with their growing family.

He attended school in various places over the years. Then at the age of 14 or 15 years old he started working at a bakery baking and that was his career for most of his life.

He was a member of the exalted ruler of the McLennan Elks and a Rimbey Scott leader for a few years. He enjoyed over the year’s main activities hunting, trapping, carpentry, and breaking horses. Robert will be remembered for his personality. His daughters loved that he taught them how to hunt and shoot rifles and how to ride horses.

Robert is survived by his children Pamala Moulton and Angela (Jason) Skene; grandchildren Cassandra Moulton, Samantha Moulton, Connor Moulton, Kenzie Skene, Jorja Skene, Brodi Skene; ex-wife Theresa Hitchens (Delaney); brothers and sisters Ronald (Barbara) Hitchens, Nellie (Peter) Haywood, Melvin (Patricia) Hitchens, Eldon Hitchens, (Tammy) Hitchens, Denise (Dave) Williams, Michael (Colleen) Hitchens, Grant (Leeann) Hitchens, Alanna (Clint) Read, Gloria Hitchens-Sander, Cory Hitchens; as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Alanta Moulton and his parents Thorburger Benjaminson, Edith Hitchens and Roy Hitchens; his brother Leroy Hitchens; niece Paula Lesperance and nephew Robby Lesperance.

Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Abernethy Cemetery, Abernethy, Saskatchewan. Following the funeral service, the lunch will be held at Nellie and Peter Haywood’s home at 318 Main Street, Abernethy, Saskatchewan. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, 2180 - 23rd Avenue, Regina, SK S4S 0A5.

Messages:

Our condolences to the Hitchens families.

Bob was one of my regulars at the C.K cafe on main in oxbow Saskatchewan a few years back, I grew up knowing him as baker bob as he owned a bakery in oxbow once upon a time! His cinnamon buns and bread were delicious if you ever had the treat of trying them! He was a jokester, a story teller, and very kind to people like me. I never had much growing up, bob watched me work hard for my money at a young age and he told me stories on how he tried similar ways, baking, grass cutting, anything to make a buck really. Bob gave me a bit of happiness on my sad hard working teenage days, I will remember him for bringing me some baking, always putting a smile on my face even when we’re both grumpy and having the courage to give a little girl hope even though he needed it more than she did. Thank you baker bob, my condolences to the family.

Our deepest condolences to Our nieces Pam, Angie their families all of Bob’s siblings and their families. We will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers.

Condolences from Ralph (PINKY) & Jean Lawrence and family.
