HAYWARD KETCHUM , Norma Barbara

July 31, 1946 - October 5, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden and unexpected passing of Norma Hayward-Ketchum on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at her home at the age of 75. She is lovingly remembered by her son, John-Scott (Shannon); granddaughters, Everly and Adelaide; brothers, Elmer, Leonard, Earl, Roy, Allan and Lawrence; as well as many members of her extended family and friends.

Norma was born in Rimbey, Alberta to John and Florence (Weiss) Loyek and grew up on the family farm just outside of Rimbey with 11 brothers and sisters.  Norma was caring and compassionate in nature and pursued a career in nursing which was a natural calling for her.  Nursing took her to various cities throughout British Columbia and Alberta (Edmonton, Vernon, Lac La Biche and Red Deer) and as far away as Australia and China.  She went on to become a Registered Nurse and finished her career as a nurse with Home Care in Red Deer.

Norma enjoyed maintaining the beautiful garden and pond at her home in Poplar Ridge and watching the many birds and wildlife that frequented her yard. She had the gift of hospitality and opened her home to many international homestay and exchange students in addition to becoming the full time caregiver of her siblings with special needs.  She was remarkably resilient and had to overcome the tragic loss of two husbands that she loved dearly (Chuck - 1981 and Jim - 2011) but she persevered and continued to have a positive outlook on life. Norma was a devoted Christian, an active member of her church and always maintained a strong faith in God.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at the West Haven Cemetery near Rimbey, Alberta and a Celebration of Life to follow at a later date in the Spring or Summer of 2022.

Messages:

John Scott, I’m so sorry to see this. My heart is broken. I had no idea; was just thinking of calling your Mom. Please know that I’m giving you and your family a big hug. Your Mom was an angel. Lots of love.

John Scott and family, So very sorry about your mom’s passing. I just heard about it last night and feel very sad for you and your family, also for all the family and friends she’s left behind.

Many wonderful memories of this beautiful lady. Thankful for Normas life and the love she shared. Praying for the family as they grieve. “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭34:18‬ ‭

She was like a sister to me and I will miss her dearly. Sincere condolences to family on your great loss.

John Scott and family, thank for letting us know about your Mother's passing. So sorry for your loss, we share many fond memories of your Mom.

I am so saddened by the passing of Norma and send my deepest sympathy to her family and friends. She was a bright light in my world and I enjoyed her happy, upbeat personality. I know she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. God bless you all with peace and comfort

She was like a sister to me and I will miss her dearly. Sincere condolences two family on your great loss.

Aunty Norma was an amazing person. I spent so much time in my teenage years with Aunty Norma and John-Scott hanging out at the house or going on road trips to Saskatchewan to visit Grandpa Cecil. As an adult we would visit often and have lengthy conversations on the phone. She checked in with me often after my mom passed away. I will miss her and her strong sense of family so much. Lots of love to John-Scott and Shannon during your time of mourning.
