Marjorie Bertha Labonne

December 3rd, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce that on December 3, 2019, we unexpectedly lost Marjorie Bertha Labonne (Renaud) of Red Deer, Alberta, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born on May 2, 1948, in Kimberley, B.C. She is fondly remembered by those who she made an incredible impact on, including her Mother Eva Renaud (Marquis) and Father George Renaud both of whom predeceased her.

Marjorie attended McKim High School. After the sudden death of her father in 1966, she moved to Montreal with her Mother, where she met her future husband to be, Normand Labonne. While living in Montreal, Marjorie went to Montreal Ecole de Coiffeurs school to take up hairdressing.

In 1971, she married her best friend! They welcomed their first child, Stephane in 1973.

They moved to Kimberley, in 1974, where they would expect their second child, Renee born in 1976.

Marjorie took a shot at bartending and worked on a part time basis evenings at the Mount Baker Hotel and the T & C lounges in Cranbrook, BC.They enjoyed the mountains of B.C. and resided there until 1986, when Normand received a work transfer to Red Deer, AB, where they resided until 1994. Marjorie worked as caretaker at the former Michener Centre.

In 1994, the family moved to a new home in Edmonton, when another opportunity presented itself, i.e. flying in and out of Resolute Bay, NT, where both worked in supply management and house-keeping respectively.

After 7 years, they pursued an opportunity at Deere International, in Nisku.

Marjorie completed her working career in accounting at O.E.M. Reman in 2012 and retired thereafter.

While in Edmonton, both Marjorie’s children, completed their post-secondary education. One, later to become a teacher in Red Deer and the other, the Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Morinville.

Marjorie has become an avid Oiler fan since watching Wayne in the glory days and now really excited about the Connor / Leon dynamic duo.

Marjorie travelled throughout North America and also cruised the Mexican Riviera and totally enjoyed travelling across our wonderful country that is Canada.

Marjorie is survived by her brother George Renaud, sister-in law, Mary (Neale), their children Jodi Anderson (husband-Derek), their children, Alyssa, and Danielle, Rob Renaud (wife-Sherri) (Dyer), their kids, Ryan and Hailey. Craig Renaud predeceased Marjorie.

Her children, Renee Bowers (Labonne) (husband-Chris), kids Reese and Tate, and Stephane Labonne (Adrienne (Hull), kids Evan and Shae-Lynn.

The family would like to acknowledge the care and compassion Marjorie received from the doctors and nurses on Unit 32 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. It was truly remarkable to witness the care and love she received.

The family wishes to invite relatives and friends to a Celebration of Life ceremony on Tuesday,  December 17, 2019 at the Red Deer Westerner main Pavillion " HEARTLAND ROOM"  at 1pm. Cremation will take place prior to her Celebration of Life Service.

The family has requested that donations be made to the Salvation Army in Red Deer, AB.

Floral arrangements can be made through Floral Expressions in Red Deer, AB.

Messages:

Normand, So sorry to hear of Marjorie’s passing. Our thoughts are with you. We think of you both often. Take care Val and Roy Turk

For my mom.... Mom, I miss you so much. You were without question such a fun, loving, spirited, and charismatic woman. I loved the times we shared just you and me, with the kids, Chris, dad, and Stephane. You always made us laugh whether you knew it or not and I truly always enjoyed your company as did the rest of our family. Now, without you physically here, we all must go on. It’s not easy because there’s still so much that we had to do. I wanted you to know how much I love you and how dearly you are missed. I will treasure all the memories we had and hope that you are resting, looking down on us all, and smiling, being proud of who we are and what we continue to do. We love you so much, Mom. Until I see you again....All my love, your daughter, Renee. ❤️❤️

Dear Normand My sincere condolences to your family. I was very sad to hear of Margorie's passing from Rennie. Margorie was lovely, caring and had a great sense of humor. As you know we met at our place of work, and from that day on we became good friends. We had many lunches and coffee's together in the late 80's. Early 90's . We were raising our families and enjoying life. You then were offered a transfer to Edmonton. Margorie and I kept in touch and did meet a few times in Red Deer . We had a great friendship. In 2016 , I retired and moved to NewZealand to be closer to my grandchildren. Margorie and I talked again before leaving. " Farwell to my friend Margorie". I shed a tear, threw a seashell into the sea, "Remembering you" Until we meet again . Best Friends Janelle Morrissette

Norm and Family, I know very few people in this world who can match Marjorie's work ethic or character. She was such a lovely person. While I can't speak of her in other jobs, I can certainly state with confidence that she was an amazing part of the accounting team at OEM. I am deeply saddened by this tragic loss and sincerely hope that you all find incredible strength in each other. Many people are sharing your sadness, including me!

Cher Normand, Quelle triste nouvelle! Johanne xxx

Denis and me offer you our sincere condolence. We are very sorry for the loss of Marjorie. We remember her nice smile and her kindness. Michelle

My dear Marjorie:- We had worked so hard to get to the place you & I were in. Travelling back and forth from Kimberley to Montreal, enjoying the spectacular Rockies, working from BC to Alberta and near the North Pole, Nunavut. You raised our 2 kids Renee & Stephane to be so successful in their own careers and family life. You always gave it all you had including maintaining our homes especially our Red Deer apartment. It was all we desired, in suite washer/ dryer, elevator, etc. I made sure our resources and our living expenses were balanced and in sync. We went everywhere in our Kia Forte and we were proud of our family vehicle. We shared the best Posturepedic multi coil European pillowtop bed Where we laid our sore arthritic bones to rest every night. You left us way to soon, you know, and you were so strong and healthy, I hope that you left satisfied with the life we had experienced. We now have a wonderful golden wreath hanging on our door that Tate and I put together with Xmas elements from Michael"s. I promise to maintain your truly high home housekeeping standards as long as I will be physically capable. We were so close to our 50 th anniversary and the related huge celebration. In lieu we will be Celebrating your life at Westerner Heartland room, with all our family, friends, and former supervisors, too numerous to list here. Maria, Teresa, Anne, Terry, Scott, Mark, Sam, Albert, Mike, etc. etc. The function includes service by Father Mirek, BO'S catering. and hymns by Brad Diduch. We are putting together a slide show of your memories and photos that you had saved thru the years. I hope you will enjoy your Celebration and be proud of what we are doing exclusively for you. Good night, honey, and until we meet again. Your loving husband, Normand
