Norman Rodney Funk

December 29th, 2022

Norman Rodney Funk was born January 15, 1942, to Bill and Martha Funk in Morris, Manitoba. Soon afterward the little family moved to Winnipeg. Norm was joined by brothers Mel in 1945 and Bruce in 1948. In 1968, a chosen sister, Dawn Marie, arrived.

At the age of 10, Norm decided to follow Jesus as his Lord and Saviour, a decision that impacted the rest of his life. His desire was to follow his Lord's leading, serving in various capacities in churches they attended.

When Norm was 14 the family moved to Selkirk, Manitoba where his father began his ministry at Grace Baptist Church. After high school in Selkirk, Norm spent two years at the Vancouver Bible Institute. Upon his return to Selkirk, he enrolled at the University of Manitoba before finishing his degrees in Asian Studies and Education at UBC after the family's move to Vancouver in 1964.

In 1967 he married Shirley Lennox, the love of his life, whom he met at his dad's new church. After graduation they moved to Bella Coola where Norm taught school for a year. There they welcomed their daughter, Lisa. Two years later, back in Vancouver, their son Charles was born.

Upon returning to Vancouver, Norm took a job with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Vancouver. For the next 16 years he worked with youth in the community.

In his later years he started the CGA accounting program me. After 6 long years of studies, while working full time, he graduated in 1993. He used his degree at various community centres including Hastings and Kerrisdale, where he ended his career.

He retired in 2016 and he and Shirley enjoyed life on their small farm in Aldergrove. They were blessed with four grandkids. Sarah and Rachel to Lisa and her husband Cam. Matheus and Stella to Charles and his wife Lyndsey.

His heart was with his family, always wanting God's best for them and always trying to be an encouragement to them. We will miss you Norm and are grateful to know your pain in over and you are now in the presence of your precious Saviour and Lord.
