Jeffrey "Jeff" Scott MacKay

November 25th, 2017

MacKay, Jeffrey Scott
August 1, 1989 – November 25, 2017

Dan and Jody MacKay deeply regret to announce the loss of their son Jeffrey Scott MacKay, aged 28. Jeff’s life was motivated by music and people. He was a talented musician and composer, and was never long without a guitar in his hands. He was also starting a new path in life, training for a career in Safety at SAIT. Jeff’s family and friends meant the world to him. Jeff was full of love, compassion and generosity.

He will be forever remembered as a loyal and caring friend who would always have time to listen, give kind advice, a goofy joke, a hug, offer a place to lay your head, or nourishment for your body and soul.  Most of all, he wanted to make everyone as happy and full of life as he was.

Jeff will be missed by his parents, Dan and Jody; brother, Stewart; grandfather, Vernon MacKay; grandmother, Marian Symington; aunt, Susan MacKay; uncles, Lewis (Anne) MacKay, Robert MacKay, and uncle Blake LeBlanc; first cousins, Lewis and Ross Fairgrieve-Park, Kara, Maddy and Max MacKay, and Lindsay and Tyler LeBlanc; and of course, he will be greatly missed by his legion of friends and fellow musicians.

A Celebration of Jeff’s Life will be led by the Reverend Bruce Sheasby at the Delta Calgary South Hotel (Kananaskis Room), 135 Southland Drive SE, Calgary, AB on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 2:30 pm. Doors will open at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, Dan and Jody suggest a donation in Jeff’s memory to community support organizations such as The Mustard Seed, The Food Bank, or The Salvation Army. This is in keeping with the spirit of what Jeff had always done for his friends; helping others in need.

Messages:

Our deepest condolences to Dan and Jody and the whole family on your loss. It is never easy to lose a loved one, especially a child. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Jody and Dan, It was with sadness that I read Jeffrey’s obituary in the Calgary Herald. Although, it’s been many years since our Lk Bonavista years ... but I recall with fondness volunteering with you Jody and seeing all the kids at the various elementary and junior high concerts, field trips and school events. I didn’t know Jeffrey very well but remember him as a polite, friendly kid that would say hello when he saw me in the school or out in the community. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. “The only thing that lasts longer than sorrow is love.” - Anonymous Sincerely, Beth Grant .

My most sincere condolences to Jeff's family. I haven't met any of you but I can imagine what loving people you must be to bring up such a warm hearted man. I knew Jeff through Burlap Sac, I've known Matt Weber for many years. Jeff and I didn't see each other very often but whenever we did, he always had the best, biggest hugs and smiles to give. He was bursting with love and positivity whenever I saw him. It was impossible to be upset around him. His love for music was infectious and inspiring. I will miss our conversations about musicians and styles, but most of all his sense of humour and endless good vibes. The world is less bright without him, that is a fact. I can't imagine the sadness you're all feeling but I know Jeff would want us all to keep our heads up and float on.
