Bennie Switzer, beloved husband of Doris Switzer,
passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the age of 85 years. Bennie was born
in Calgary and completed his grade 12 education at Western Canada High School. Bennie
met his wife Doris at a dance in downtown Calgary. The two were wed in 1956,
and fondly called each other “Joe” for their 56 years of loving marriage. While
raising three children in the community of Bowness, Bennie worked various jobs,
including co-owning and operating a dry cleaning/dye house business and working
as a boiler engineer at Atco Structures and the Grace Hospital. Bennie enjoyed
fishing, bowling, woodworking and playing crib. Bennie and Doris were long-time
members of the Forest Lawn Alberta Loyal Order of Moose as well as the Forge
Seniors Club, where they formed many close friendships over the years. Later in
life Bennie greatly enjoyed being a granddad. His eight grandchildren will miss
his stories, trickery and teasing. Bennie is survived by his wife, Doris; his
children, Deborah (Brian) Cook, Vivian (Mark) Klingbeil, Allan (Kimberley); and
8 grandchildren, Matthew, Annalise, Cailynn, Quinn, Aidan, Morgan, Alexandra
and Jacintha. A Celebration of Life will be held at Moose Lodge, 4885 Hubalta
Road SE, on Saturday, April 27 at 2:00pm.
