LAUT, Donald Ian

October 3, 1932 – July 23, 2022

Donald Ian Laut passed away at the Tom Baker Center surrounded by family on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the age of 89 years. He was born and raised in the Crossfield area where he attended school and after graduation, attended Olds College. Don married Reta Laut (Wilson) on August 4, 1956. Together they farmed the family farm and raised four children.

Don was active in numerous community organizations including a 4H Leader, Crossfield Elks  as well as an avid manager and fan of his son’s playing for Carstairs Minor Hockey. Don loved all sports especially hockey and football, college basketball in Yuma and golf.

Don and Reta retired to Crossfield in 1995 and traveled to Yuma for the winters for 27 years.  There, they enjoyed the warmth and many friendships that they made. They traveled to many destinations including Costa Rica, the Panama Canal, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Ireland, Norway, Alaska and Hawaii, as well as a family trip with all their children and grandchildren to Disney World to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Don was an avid rollercoaster fan.

Reta was always Don’s one and only, who passed in 2019. He is lovingly remembered by all of his children, Steve (Lori), Ross (Tracy), Leslie (Lyle) and Cameron (Alice); grandchildren, Kagen, Brandon (Kendra), Danae (Tanner), Taylor (Dave), Jonel, Tristan, Claire and Ben; and great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Conrad. Don was predeceased by his loving wife, Reta; his parents, Ian and Ruth; sister, Jean.

Don was a kind and sweet man who always saw the best in people. He was fiercely proud of all of his children and grandchildren. He loved family time and checking things out on the farm.

Don’s family is extremely grateful for the tremendous care he received from the staff at Tom Baker/Foothills and to all of the management and staff at the Rockyview Lodge in Crossfield that took such good care of him for the past three years.

We will Celebrate Don’s Life at a Come & Go Tea at the Crossfield Hall on Sunday, August 14, 2022 between 1:00 - 3:00. If friends so desire, memorial tributes can be made to the charity of your choice.
