HOFER, Rachel

October 11, 1933 – October 7, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rachel Hofer, who passed away peacefully on Friday, October 7, 2022, surrounded by her loving children.  Rachel was just days shy of celebrating her 89th birthday.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Adela, Joseph, Philip, Zacharias (Ellene), Samuel (Carrie), Ruth, Joyce, and David (Debbie). Along with 16 Grandchildren and 6 Great-grandchildren.

Waiting to see her in heaven are her parents, Samuel and Suzanna; her daughter, Susan Zerr and Susan’s husband, Garth Zerr.

Rachel was born on the Iberville Hutterite Colony near Eli Manitoba, and was the 2nd oldest to a family of 16. She married at the age of 20 and moved to Rock Lake Colony in Manitoba where she started her family.  Later moving to Interlake Colony and then on to Regina Saskatchewan. Rachel ran a government run Day Home in Regina for many years, then she joined Home Care where she was a valued employee and helped many people.

One of her greatest joys was purchasing her own home on Grey Street in Regina at the age of 60. She spent many hours tending her flowers and her garden. Always quoting “Home is where the heart is.” She enjoyed cooking for her family and providing produce from her garden.

Rachel loved to sew and made sure each one of her children and grandchildren had feather quilts and pillows, knitted socks and slippers. Every year at Christmas she gave all her grandchildren pajamas. These are so special to all of us. The newest Great Grandchild will be arriving soon and will be blessed to have a quilt passed down to them.  Making sure the newest one is wrapped in Rachel’s love.

The last two and a half years were spent in Calgary, where she was lovingly taken care of by her eldest daughter Adela.

Family and Friends will gather on Friday, October 21, 2022, in Calgary Alberta for her Celebration of Life.
