GRANT, Erin Ruth

December 21, 1969 - June 6, 2022

Erin Ruth Grant passed away suddenly on Monday, June 6, 2022, at her home in Calgary.

Erin was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 21, 1969.

She attended Lord Beaverbrook High School and went on to graduate from the University of Calgary with a degree in Sociology.

Following University, Erin volunteered at the Elizabeth Fry Society and then worked with Legal Aid, Calgary for 23 years until the Calgary office moved to Edmonton. Erin did not wish to move away from her family and many friends.

Erin was a beloved daughter to Donald and Gladys, a sister to Lori (James) and James (Ashley) and a doting auntie to Ella. Not to mention her furry niece and nephews: Nova, Rooster, and Hap, who miss her cuddles.

Erin will be fondly remembered by a legion of friends. Once she made a friend, she had a friend for life.

Rather than a funeral, the family will later hold a celebration of Erin’s life, as she would prefer.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Calgary Humane Society or to the Elizabeth Fry Society.

Messages:

We met in what seems like a lifetime ago ( the early 90’s ) and now there just seems to be a hole where “ just giving E a call “ was. I miss wry jokes, earnest questions about how you’re doing, and laughing about really bad tv shows. I’m missing somebody that I always thought would be around.

We met decades ago, a beautiful, bubbly, vivacious girl with a permanent smile on her face and a giggle that erupted from her every few minutes. Erin and Marnie and all their boys, an entire lot of Beaverbrook alumni sitting at 'our' table in The Pit. We melded. Many came into our lives, some left. We kept Erin. We couldn't let her go, with whom could I eat plain white rice with at 3:00 am after a night of drinking? We bonded over Kraft Dinner, never, ever put pepper on Kraft Dinner! Bermuda Shorts Day!!! Summerland and Penticton Peach Fest! Long talks about everything and anything. Her capacity to empathize was enormous. She loved her friends. She loved her family. I missed her terribly during Covid, Zoom was good but in person was better. Erin gave great hugs. I wish I could hug her... I love you Erin. (hugs)

Dearest Gladys, Don, James (Ashley), Lori Our hearts are broken for your loss of your Beautiful, Darling Daughter Erin Ruth; Dear sister to James and Lori; Sister-in-Law to Ashley and Aunty to Ella. We have another Guardian Angel watching down on you and us from Heaven. Much Love from; Brother Roy and Angie; Cousin, Linda and Mike

My most sincere condolences to Erins parents, siblings, family and friends. I had the pleasure of working with Erin at Legal Aid. We worked together as part of the "criminal team" and enjoyed many frustrations and laughs. In the many years I worked with Erin I never once hear her say an unkind word to a client, she was completely non judgmental and compassionate. It was a pleasure to work with her. We enjoyed many trips back and forth to Edmonton while negotiating employment contracts with Legal Aid. Erin was a truly kind soul, very caring. She loved her family with all her heart; I was witness to this when I had the adventure of attending the Leonard Cohen concert with Erin, her parents and her sister. It was so nice to see how they enjoyed each others company. Erin you left too soon, I hope your crossing was gentle and that you were greeted with open arms. Rest in paradise, I can see you dancing in the sky. D

My dear funny bus friend..We had so many chats and laughs....I'm so sorry I didn't reach out more during the last 2 stupid years:( Rest in peace my dear friend ❤
