ELIZABETH (Betty) IRENE ROMMAN (nee Wiebe)

Born- January 10, 1933 in Regina, SK

Mom passed away with her family by her side on Thursday, September 2, 2021 in Didsbury, AB at the young age of 88.

Betty and Bob were married in Regina SK on August 8, 1953, and just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. They were soul mates from the time they met at Sears. Seldom did you not see them smiling when they were together.

In 1962 Betty and Bob moved to Calgary with four children and a dog in tow. In Calgary they had two more children before moving to Crossfield in 1978. There they bought Crossfield Garage where mom managed the books. Both Mom and Dad got involved in the small community right away. Betty was always involved with some organization whether it was the church, the church choir, CWL, Girl Guides, Golden Key Club or Lionesses to name a few.

Betty was known for her love to dance and we always enjoyed watching mom and dad jiving or waltzing around the dance floor. She also had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. Every time we were all together mom insisted Rick play his guitar and we enjoyed hearing them sing together and would always join in. She also loved to paint in her spare time, whether it was oil paintings, ceramics or even "sweat suits" – she was so talented. She definitely loved her flowers, plants and spending time in the garden. These last few years she spent many hours looking out her window enjoying all the flowers, plants and trees in the neighborhood. We would have fun trying to guess the flowers in her bouquets or the trees outside. Mom had some definite "rules" when it came to jewelry and make up, and she "never left the house without earrings, a necklace or lipstick".

Betty was well known for her wonderful sense of humour and her friends have commented how they are going to miss that little smirk. She always had the care workers at the Bethany laughing.

Betty loved her time with her family and friends at Little Fish Lake where we spent our summers for 50+ years and in the winter we spent our weekends snowmobiling or tobogganing. Mom was always ready for a new adventure – traveling to BC, Disneyland, Las Vegas, Ontario, on a cruise ship or wherever.

Mom treasured her dogs and instilled in us a love and respect for all animals. We cannot remember a time when there wasn’t a dog living in the house. Mom thoroughly enjoyed when we brought our dogs for a visit and constantly referred to each one as “her dog”. She loved giving them “just one more” treat before we left!

Mom was the cornerstone of our family and kept us all in line. She was our confidante, our taxi driver, our entertainment director, our inner voice of reason, our travel companion, our friend - the list is endless. We know she is upstairs surrounded by flowers, music and dancing, enjoying her gardening, picking berries and playing with the dogs. And we're pretty sure she has a pocket full of dog treats with her.

Mom is now with her parents, brother, many cousins, friends and numerous furry friends.

She will be sadly missed by her husband, Bob, sons – Rick (Sherry), Brad (Tammy), daughters - Kim (Darrell), Cary (Tom), Cindy (Scott), Chris (Tim), her 8 grandchildren – Carla (Matt), Shawn (Ashleigh), Bryce (Kristen), Logan, Brody (Holly), Darby (Shay), Hailey and Ciennah. And her recent joys in life - her 3 great grandchildren – who knew her as GG – Griffin, Dawson and Oaklynn.

She is also sadly missed by her two sisters – Gail and Lynn and many extended family and friends.

Betty’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude for all the thoughtful expressions of love and kindness by relatives and friends during their time of loss and bereavement.

We would also like to thank the wonderful care workers at the Bethany in Didsbury and Rockyview Lodge in Crossfield. They were all so good with Mom and were more like friends.

A Celebration of Life for Betty will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Crossfield Community Hall. Betty loved colour, so if you plan to join us at her celebration of life, please wear bright colours.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the STARS Air Ambulance (www.stars.ca) or the Crossfield Humane Society (www.tailstotell.ca).

Hi, I was so sorry when my daughter Jennifer Schulz told me about Betty. I had been at the Bethany Wed. to visit Christa Schulz and didn't see Betty. The last time I saw her was a month ago. She seemed a bit lost and I asked her where she wanted to go. She pointed upwards and that she was trying to go up there. She always had a smile for me. I was with her many years ago in CWL. She will definitely be missed. My thoughts are with you at this sad time. Sincerely, Anne Strilchuk, Carstairs
