Helen Wilson

With heavy hearts Helen’s family announces her peaceful passing on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at the age of 96, at the Bethany Care Center in Airdrie, Alberta.

Helen was the firstborn child of Henry and Veda Olson on March 6, 1924 where they lived in Craik, Saskatchewan. She married Robert (Bob) Wilson, residing in Flin Flon, Swan River and Winnipeg, Manitoba for many years. From there they moved to Edmonton, later settling in Airdrie, Alberta.

Helen was a caring mother who loved spending time with her family, celebrating special occasions, cooking meals and baking goodies loved by everyone. Helen loved children, especially babies, devoting many years of her life working in childcare. Throughout her life, she was a very active and social person which continued into her retirement years, everyday going for coffee with her many friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Donna (Jack) Lumax, Keith (Winnie) Wilson, Judy (Bill) Barevich, Doug (Mary) Wilson; as well as, her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Doud and Darlene (Bill) McEwen; sister-in-law, Edna Olson, Anne Olson and Betty Hayes.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bob) Wilson; son, William (Billy) Wilson; brothers, Vernon Olson and Elmer Olson.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Bethany Care Center in Airdrie for their kind and professional care to Helen in her final days.

Due to COVID concerns the family will be having a Memorial and Internment Service in Swan River, Manitoba in safer times.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, Branch 288 in Airdrie, AB or Branch 39 in Swan River, MB.

Our sincerest condolences to Helen's family. Especially to Keith and Winnie and family. Helen and Bob welcomed me into their home for a holiday meal that was so good and special. I had just transfered to Airdrie and was alone when Keith befriended me. I will always be thankful for being accepted as a member of their extended family. And the first Perogies and cabbage rolls I ever had that Helen made. ~ John and Clem Kirkelie
