Marion Gwendolyn Earle

April 5th, 2020

Marion Gwendolyn Earle (Gwen) passed away Sunday, April 5, 2020 at the age of 94 years. She was born to Tom and Greta Wolfe of Elk Point, Alberta on May 22, 1925. Gwen grew up with two sisters and one brother in a farming community near Elk Point. Tragically, she lost her brother during the war. After High School, she moved to Edmonton to complete an Education Degree at the University of Alberta. Upon graduation, she obtained a position as the mathematics and science teacher at Cremona High School. Gwen met and married Mick Earle in Cremona in 1949. Together they lived and worked on the family farm with Mick’s parents. Gradually they assumed all responsibility for the farm and also cared for Mick’s parents as they aged. They were also blessed with two children, Tom and Marg. Gwen was always involved with her community. She babysat numerous children and tutored even more young people who struggled with Mathematics at school. She was also very active in the Cremona Missionary Church, and the Cremona United Church which later became the Cremona Congregational Church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. Her faith was the foundation for how she lived her life; her time was spent working in her garden, caring for her family, spending time with friends, serving in the community and being there when anyone needed a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and even great-grandmother. She was always a thoughtful, caring, and gracious lady in the varied roles she took on throughout her lifetime. She was predeceased by her husband Mick, in 2013, her sisters, Marjorie(Dick) Christmas, Dorothy Brown, and brother John Wolfe. Her memory is celebrated by her son Tom (Ruth), and her daughter Marg (Peter Johnston) as well as five grandchildren and their spouses; Greg Earle (Holly), Laura (Greg Thiessen), Timothy Earle (Karen), Jim Johnston (Karen), Jeff Johnston (Carla), former daughter-in-law, Rebekah and brother-in-law, Gerald Brown. She also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the dedicated staff and friends who visited her at Didsbury, Unit 1, Long Term Care where Gwen received exceptional care for the last three years. A Private Graveside was held on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at the Cremona Cemetery due to COVID-19.
